Ghana defender Lee Addy has received a major injury boost ahead of the 2014 World Cup with news he might make a quicker than expected recovery from his latest setback.

The 23-year-old suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury while in action for his club Dinamo Zagreb against Rijeka in the Croatian top flight last Wednesday.

Initial tests on the injury revealed the Ghana international has damaged an anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

This injury usually takes players at least four-six months to make full recovery – ruling the former Berekum Chelsea player out of the 2014 World Cup.

Lee Addy’s chances of going to the World Cup could however be boosted later Tuesday afternoon where he is set for further tests, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The further examination has been made necessary after the player was seen walking on his injured knee.

The swelling around the injured knee has gone down – clearing the path for a more accurate test to be conducted by a specialist on Tuesday.

If cleared, Addy could make a quicker than expected return from injury which could make him eligible for selection into the Black Stars for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer since arriving to Dinamo Zagreb from Chinese club Dalian Aerbin in 2013 and helped the side clinch the Croatian top flight in just his first season.
