Ghana defender John Boye’s much-anticipated return has been delayed

Ghana defender John Boye’s much-anticipated return to action in the French top-flight has been delayed after he was excluded from the Rennes squad over the weekend.

The fit-again towering centre-back was expected to be used by the Ligue 1 club in their tough match against Paris St. Germain on Saturday.

This comes after the Black Stars dependable defender returned to training with the first team of the club last week following a two-month injury-induced absence.

But coach Philippe Montanier opted not to use the Ghanaian in the match in his bid to ensure that Boye is fully fit for the toughness of Ligue 1.

As a result the Boye was totally excluded from team’s squad for the match, delaying the Ghanaian defender’s return to action as Rennes lost 3-1 at home to PSG.

He is now expected to be used in one of the club’s second team matches before he returns to action for the club in the top-flight league.

Boye’s return will be a major boost for Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah who is seeking to get all of his top players fit for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in June.
