Ghana defender John Boye is confident Stade Rennes can secure a top four finish in the French Ligue 1 despite their sloppy start to the season.

Rennes were languishing in the relegation zone before Friday’s 2-0 win over Lille which catapulted them to 14th place.

Les Rouges et Noirs must overcome Sochaux at their favourite Stade Auguste-Bonal to climb further up the table next weekend.

Despite the presence of big guns PSG, Marseille, Lyon and champions Montpellier the Black Stars center-half insists Frédéric Antonetti’s side have gathered the right momentum to challenge for top four finish.

“It is good we won against Lille on Friday because it has given us a new confidence. Things are a bit unpredictable in the league but we will fight hard to finish among the best four clubs,” he told Ghanasoccernet.com.

Boye, 25, has played every minute for Stade Rennes in their opening seven games of the campaign.
