John Boye says he is determined to show his pedigree as a defender by marking out Cristiano Ronaldo when Ghana take on Portugal at the World Cup.

The Black Stars will face the talented Portuguese side in their final group game of next year’s tournament to be staged in Brazil.

Ghana will however face USA and Germany before taking on the perennial underachievers who are armed with the immense ability of Ronaldo – widely regarded as the current best player in the world.

But Boye, who is working his way up from injury believes he is ready to stand toe-to-toe with the marauding former Manchester United star when their respective teams face each other next summer.

“We are prepared as defenders and I am sure we will handle him (Cristiano Ronaldo),” the Stade Rennes stopper told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

“We know that he is a big player so for me, if I am marking him, I will also do my best for people to also know that I am a good defender.

“We will know how to mark him and be with him so that he doesn’t run around with the ball.

“As defenders, we have to talk to ourselves and concentrate on the game so I am sure all will be fine.”

Boye has been the most consistent performer in Ghana’s defence since bursting onto the scene at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

He however missed the qualifying playoffs against Egypt due to injury.
