Ghana defender Awal Mohammed caused a penalty as his South African side Maritzburg United and AmaZulu played out to a thrilling 1-1 draw in a highly entertaining on Friday.
Bongani Ndulula scored the reuslting penalty in the 77th minute as AmaZulu forced the draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night with three Ghanaians in action in the match.
John Paintsil and Awal played for Maritzburg while Arwuah was a star in midfield for AmaZulu.
The Team of Choice looked on course for all three points thanks to Mondli Celeââ¬â¢s first-half goal and a red card for Usuthuââ¬â¢s Bornwell Mwape, but a late penalty from Ndulula handed Steve Barkerââ¬â¢s side a share of the spoils.
Maritzburg took an early lead through Cele and then had an added advantage when Mwape was sent off, but Awalââ¬â¢s foul on Bongani Ndulula allowed the striker to level from the spot.
The away side was seeing more of the ball, and pressing the Team of Choice's backline which was marshaled by former Ghana international defender John Paintsil.
The hard-working Ghana international defender Awal was penalised for a pull on Ndulula in the box after some persistent pressure from the opposition.
Banda, Ntuthuko Mabaso and Sekotlong had wonderful chances to win the game late on, but each of them were thwarted by some excellent saves by Mngoma.
Hartog was nearly a hero but his header struck the bar at the death as AmaZulu survived.
It was a fourth draw in six games from Maritzburg, and afterwards Komphela bemoaned two more dropped points.
The Team of Choice remained fifth in the Premiership, while Usuthu remained bottom of the table.
