Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah visited Michael Essien at his residence in London as part of his monitoring of players abroad.

The Black Stars trainer spent the afternoon with the Chelsea star and his family at his home in Surrey.

Appiah was checking on the 30-year-old as part of his agenda of monitoring his foreign-based players – forming part of his preparations for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The ex Ghana captain had already began work on his monitoring having travelled to see Albert Adomah in action for Middlesbrough over the weekend.

The Black Stars trainer will take brief time off to spend the Christmas and New Year festivities with his UK-based family before resuming his monitoring duties.

“The talked quiet extensively, they had laughs and really enjoyed each other’s company,” a source close to the Essien household told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It was like coach Akwasi Appiah officially wishing Michael and his entire family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.”

Appiah is expected to travel to Italy to see in particular Sulley Muntari and other Ghanaian players within the jurisdiction.

He may also make the trip to France for the same reasons despite the winter break in Ligue 1.
