Ghana coach to ring changes for Mali AFCON playoff clash

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will make at least two changes to his starting line-up when they play Mali in the third place playoff at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Black Stars are playing Mali

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will make at least two changes to his starting line-up when they play Mali in the third place playoff at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Two first choice players John Pantsil and Rabiu Mohammed are not available for the game which means some players will be called up to replace them.

Pantsil has been ruled out of the tournament because of injury while Mohammed has been suspended after accumulating two yellow cards.

Harrison Afful could be called to replace Paintsil at the right-back position while Richard Kissi Boateng is expected to replace at versatile Afful at the left-back.

The central defensive pair of John Boye and Isaac Vorsah could be maintained while Emmanuel Agyemang Badu could be brought into the defensive midfield place to take Mohammed’s role.

Vorsah could also be played in midfield while Jonathan Mensah will partner Boye under that circumstance.

Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso, Kwadwo Asamoah and Asamoah Gyan as well as Derek Baoteng could all be started in the game.

Ghana’s probable line-up: Fatau Dauda, Harrison Afful, Richard Kissi Boateng, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Agyemang Badu, Christian Atsu, Derek Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Mubarak Wakaso.

AYEW IS LACKING IN THIS TEAM.AGAINST BURKINA HE COULD HAVE CREATED A LOT OF CHANCES.SO FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END NO APPIAH XI?

An old man asked: who is that RING CHANGES in the team? is he a striker or a midfielder? Laughter the best medicine!

  4. jbull says:

I know AA will not survive the world cup or next african cup. he’ll be sacked. this has been a poor performance, not because we dont have the squad, but lack of technicality . AA has no tactics believe it or not.

  5. critikal thinker says:

folks ,we should only blame AA ,we need to change our medical team as well ,we have not been sincere to Ghanaians and to the coach, before the game against Burkina, we heard that Anna and Yiadon are fit and has started training way back b4 our semis and we never saw them kick a ball in the tournament.
i now understand why Dede wanted to see his team doctor instead of the BS doctor ,they dont have what it takes to work around the clock to get players fit for a tournament ,they should be sacked and the coach should remain.

  6. Kwamina says:

If Boakye-Yiadom is fit, then he should start this game instead of Asamoah Gyan. We need to focus on the future Black Stars right from tonight not on those on their way out.

  7. Viper says:

Massa bench Asamoah Gyan and play another striker.

  8. i-man says:

folks, the biggest problems of the BS is this criminal organization called GFA. It need to be dissolve or else there will never be a cup for BS

Infact some of us were happy when he akwasi Appiah was appointed as the coach of the stars not bcos we see he as competent but bcos he’s our own.later some of us figured out that he’s is not the man for the job! And we’ve been vindicated by his selection of the beginning and the end of the afcon.he ignored natural left full backs in the person of nana akwasi and David and went with kissi who he doesn’t have confidence with.asuch, he was forced to player our only playmaker in the team as leftback.it was clear that Gyan was not the Gyan we knew yesterday but yet he lacks the technical eye and the courage to bench him! I was expecting him to hold his ground as a coach who knows what he’s doing but after the pressure from the media, he has decided to bench Gyan(yiadom) kissi (3) and pairing Boye and j.mensah.what a clueless and visionless coach he’s!!!

We always point fingers in the wrong direction.Did the GFA play any of the penalty kicks? Some of us are hypocrates!

  11. okukuseku says:

as a matter of fact these are useless changes: “medicine is of no use to a dead man” dis changes were available to him(coach) b4 he was playing jackpot with our lives. just hop he’s really learning from his indecisiveness

  12. TRIBAL COACH says:

KEEP THIS CLUELESS,USELESS COACH AND WAVE,GOOD BYE TO THE WORLD CUP.THIS MUMU KUMASI TRIBAL COACH HAVE NEVER COACHED EVEN A FOURTH DIVISION TEAM BEFORE BUT HE’S A BS COACH.DO U GUYS REMEMBER WHEN THE STARLETS WAS GIVING TO FRIMPONG MANSO?

  13. Fiifi says:

Insulting the coach is not right! He still lack certain qualities and experience to be a full flegded national coach of the BS! The fault lies with the GFA.It is true AA has the coaching Badges but lack the practical experience (Job shadowing and assistanship to a coach who was dismissed is not = to practical experience!). There are coaches in Ghana with A Int.Coaching Badges with practical experience, who have full control over their teams. Or even a coach who was assistant to also one of the most successful foreign coaches (milo)Ghana had , and who has the practical experience and was coach of the majority of the young players in the present BS and even trained these youth to win the U-20 WC(even forgetting about the African U-20 cup). The impression coming out now is, that AA is not his own man and even has problems of authority over his players, that was why he was forced to use Dede as a scapegoat to his own peril!! As for Dede, he has been vindicated for staying with his doctor to get well treated and cured! Players who got injured during those “friendlies” never recovered fully to participate in the tournament(what is wrong with the medical team??). By the way which of you would be prepared to switch doctors in the middle of his treatment for a doctor he is not used to??? This african mentality “to show somebody where power lies” is one of the major causes of the failures in Africa. The GFA and all stakeholders should wake up and do the right things before things get out of hand!!!

What a pity, Ghana came back from Afcon with a hand shake!!!
