Ghana coach Stevanovic preaches attacking football

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic has promised an attacking football formation as he officially began work today.

The 44-year-old former Serbia assistant coach wants to change the defensive tactics of his immediate predecessor and compatriot Milovan Rajevac.

Ghana's sit-back approach yielded dividends though at the Nations Cup and World Cup finals in 2010 but Stevanovic, affectionately called Plavi, wants to rejig it a little bit.

"We must play attacking and attacking football while being cautious in defence and I am sure we will achieve the results. I am here to build champions and I'm certain that all of us want to be champion," the Serb said at press conference on Wednesday.

Stevanovic’s  first test is likely to be next month during an international friendly against a yet-be-named opponent.

He will then focus for a double header in March: first a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Congo on 26 March and a high profile friendly against England three days later at Wembley.
