Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah was in the stands to watch defender Rashid Sumaila in action for Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Stars trainer took his place in the VIP section of the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg to take a closer look at one of the candidates for the limited 23 spots for the World Cup.
Appiah however had to wait until the start of the second half to see his prospective World Cup defender in action.
The 21-year-old impressed especially in the last minutes of the game when he had to make a goal line clearance to help his side to a vital but slim win over Moroka Swallows.
Sundowns had taken an early lead through Teko Modise and put up a resolute defensive display to take the crucial three points.
The ex Asante Kotoko loanee came on at the start of the second half to replace Alje Schut to make a strong case for his inclusion into the Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup with his sterling performance which earned the praise of his coach Pitso Mosimane.
Sumaila will have a one-on-one meeting with coach Kwesi Appiah on Sunday before the Black Stars trainer heads out to monitor other players.
The Ghana coach will return from his official duty in South Africa on Wednesday to finalize his squad for Juneââ¬â¢s tournament in Brazil.
He will name a provisional squad for the tournament by May 13 after which non-residential camping will begin in Accra in late May.
