Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes captain Asamoah Gyan is at par with some of the best strikers in the world despite playing in the obscure UAE top-flight.

Gyan, who captains the Ghana team, made shock move in September 2011 when he joined Al Ain on loan from English Premier League side Sunderland.

The 28-year-old led the club to win their first league title in ten years and was rewarded with a permanent deal.

He has won back-to-back league titles and in all occasions winning the goal king awards.

Gyan currently leads the scorers chart in UAE with 16 goals from 14 matches.

His national team still believes the former Rennes striker has not lost anything despite playing in a weaker league.

“I know Gyan is not playing in what would say the top leagues, but where he’s playing he’s doing so well, he’s scoring a lot of goals. For me he’s improved a lot.” Appiah told FIFA.com

“His confidence levels have risen so high and when he has the opportunity, there’s no way he will not put it in. For me he’s one of the best strikers in the world.”

Gyan has been a subject of transfer speculation this January with English Premier League duo West Ham United and Stoke City said to be interested.

gyan is definitely in the top 20 – 25 1000%

What does Akwesi Appiah know, after receiving gifts and bribes from Asamoah Gyan, he feels compelled to mouth off for him to the media. If GYAN is that good why is he not playing with the best in Europe?

Its easier to play with inferior players and score a lot of goals, that doesn’t make you a “World Striker”

If he wants to be called that, then he should be playing at the EPL scoring the same number of goals or anything closer to that of what he is been doing at that Division 20 league.

Most of the players who are “World Class” have big egoes that will not allow them to play in inferior leagues because they always want to play with best unless they are the wining end of their career.

As we all know the moment Asamoah Gyan hears of EPL(European Premier Leagues) he starts shitting in his pants. That league is not for sisi’s, it’s for the real men of football like the Essien, Messi, KPB, Muntari, Rinaldo etc etc

Asamoah Gyan stop being a SISI and play in the EPL where the real footballers are.

Gyan is a good striker but not number one in the world

  5. papa nkrumah says:

To be fair, the coach didn’t say anything about Gyan being number 1 in the world. Again his claim that Gyan may be one of the best in the world may remainr merely a perception until Gyan actually proves it in one of the top leagues of the world. Even if he wins the golden boot in the world cup, he would still not have proven himself as top. Ask Diego Forlanand Thomas Mueller.
