Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah accepts blame for poor AFCON show

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has taken full responsibility of the team’s abject display at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars lost their last two matches against Burkina Faso and Mali in the semi-final and third-place matches respectively.

Before that, the four-time African champions were second best in their quarter-final clash against Cape Verde but won 2-0.

Appiah admitted some of his decisions contributed to the team’s unconvincing performances at the tournament.

“I made some tactical errors in the course of the competition,” the soft-speaking trainer said at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

“I have learnt very useful lessons from the experience in South Africa and I hope to correct such mistakes for the good of the team in future.”

The Ghana Football Association has told Appiah to continue his work as Black Stars coach.

Appiah will now have to assemble a squad that will play Sudan on March 24 in a must-win 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

What a bunch or crap from a looser. There is nothing you can improve with this Black Stars. This job is bigger than you can handle. Just save the whole Ghanaian population a grief and get lost. Talk is cheap.

Remember, the worldcup qualifying is coming and we are watching.

Remember, the worldcup qualifying is coming and we are going to put a lot of heat on you. We will be watching your every move, dissecting every player you call, every game you play and we will be turning the volume on you and the GFA if do not get the Black Stars to the worldcup.

  5. keith from germany says:

till date i havent understood why u dropped swedish goal king warris?im even shocked nobody was talking about warris agcon exclusion.
u cant take this cabo verde friendly in portugal n 45 minutes to judge a player who didnt get the balls he needs as a striker.
the person u should have dropped should be derek boateng becuz that guy has got nothing to search for in the stars set up.
pls go n call back essien n please settle the GFA quarrel with KPB.
coach since u said u made a lot of mistakes at the afcon then people are expecting from u not to repeat this errors u made for example by playing k.asamoah at left bacck in a crucial game against burkina faso whilst u had had four defenders on the bench.the question is if u didnt trust kissi-boateng then why did u include him in the squad.
david addy was left out for no reason.as for the ayews i wont talk about them becuz i kno u n ur GFA have issues with them.what the issues are only u guys kn.
now its now or never to solve the left back position.baba abdul rahman of german bundesliga side spvgg greuther fürth is playing good football against the likes of robben,müller, ribery, gomez, hunterlaar, farfan,götze, reus, lewandowski, kiessling, diego n just to mention a few, these are top worldclass n tested players he is playing against week in n week out.with a more competent coach the .stars would have gone for glory becuz the b.faso game showed how technically bankrupt AA WAS.
the earlier u correct ur errors, the better.

Same here… I made the same complains about Waris too before the AFCON and I was also surprised nobody said anything. That Guy is a clinical finisher. AA Gave him some few minutes in a friendly and decided he was not a good material for his team… Excluding Waris was the biggest JOKE in centuries for me. It is as if AA is against intelligent play and players…Talk
      about the following;
      Ishmael Yartey,Derek asamoah,Abeyie,Patrick Nyarko
David Addy,Torric Jibril and until recently Solomon Asante was always a bench warmer in BStars.
He should try and watch the major leagues in world he and see how Ghanaian player are doing. Player selection in the Black Stars should be based on merit and not Favoritism and “seniorism” if you will.

    • Jimmy says:

This whole setup needs to formatted! GFA, Coach, Players…. We won’t qualify for the world cup. I can bet my last pesewa on it. With Akwasi Appiah in charge forget it. to 2013… The guy is a useless coach. Listen, Derek Boateng will be the first guy to get a call.Nepotism. He has no chrisma,no clue, above all lacks tactical sense.

  6. nimo says:

He is too soft, coaching is not for him. I don’t think he has leant his lessons cos he’s not assertive enough to be a coach. He’s still going to be the same laid back, happy-go-lucky coach, stubborn as hell. If he continues to play K Asamoah in the left back position or select mediocre players she should be sacked with no hesitation. Yeah!

  7. mojahadine says:

And lest I forget. Please do not call Asamoah Gyan to your next squad. He is not the only striker Ghana has or can produce. There are a lot of them out there waiting to showcase their talent. Ghana Black Stars can do without Asamoah Gyan. seriously.
Get Sillas Tetteh and Kuuku Dadzie to help you. You are too weak for this job.

Why is a guy playing his craft in a D-league in UAE gets to be the captain of an African power house, the Ghana Black Stars? this is fishy. Ghana has a lot of talented strikers available, if you think you are up for this job, lets see if you can find them. If you do not give anyone other than Asamoah Gyan the chance, how else can you find others.

Please stop taking gifts from Asamoah Gyan and Derek Boateng and drop them from the Black Stars. They have nothing left to offer our beloved national team.

  8. AFRICAN-LION says:

Mark it on a wall,Ghana is out completely out. After the 1960′s no one was hearing about Ghana till 1999-2010 just cause the good teams in Africa were having issues, like Cameroon ,Nigeria & Egypt now to add to it ivory coast. These teams are beginning to come to life again. Ghanians come to your senses & face the reality,Ghana isn’t a soccer power house in Africa. It’s clear Zambia is better……… Everyone can tell except you Ghanians & ur fellow West Africans who just try to cover your shame,& you guys think Africa belongs to West Africa. I’m certain of Zambia going to the world cup in Brazil. You guys don’t have the players or coach that can stop us. Every time you guys come to the nations cup or any competition you label ur team a young up coming team, those 35-40 years old men. When is the team going to be experienced?… Same shiiiiiiiiit over and over again…. Chipolopolo all the way.

Ghanians there’s no way your team can beat Zambia in Accra. You guys are leaving on a passed glory that what was easily and poorly earned. I Repeat in the 1912?s-1960?s soccer wasn’t what it is today, beside none know how u won those Afcon trophies there could also be some cheating involved. Honestly Ghana don’t have the players to withstand an average African team. We all saw how Burkina Faso & Cape Verde out played Ghana,Imagine how Nigeria out played same Burkina Faso in 2 games, and we also out played them but the goals didn’t come. Ghana wasn’t suppose to come out of the group stage,if not for the corruption & bribing they did.

The world cup qualifier against Zambia in Ghana will have special officials who will monitor the game, cause Ghana is now a known referee bribers. I’m sure of Zambia going to the world cup…

I have seen Ghana played over and over again,it’s too clear there’s nothing special about ur Black-Star the aren’t close to average. All you guys do is run around ur opponent 18area. Nothing special.

  9. Job says:

Is AA a coach or observer ? What got me annoyed was some the statement in his so call ” I have accepts the blame….” 1. I have leant useful lesson,2. Am building a team, 3. There’s no garrantee for seniors . Did we sent you to south Africa for studies, or did we hired you for building a team or coach a team ? The way his is talking makes the situation more annoying then as it was. One things the senior hate to hear is they’ve to come and compete with young once for position. They’ve qualified us 2 times to wc whilst you coach during your playing days did not able achieved it. And you talking agriculture nonsense.

    • LolvFunny says:

LOL…lessons are not learnt in the mouth. In the last AFCON, the same thing was said by His predecessor when he was then the assistant… But as racist as some Ghanaians could be, they called for his Head immediately without any hesitation because he was a White man and yet when the same ball was thrown to AA, some of you are saying he should be given a second chance. You guys have forgotten that he failed together with the Coach in the last AFCON. What interest do the GFA have in keeping AA?

  10. PITO says:

If I was A.A here will be my formation for the sudan game.

Formation 4-1-(2)-1-2 . This is same as (4-4-2) but with the 2 midfelders spread out on the Left and right wings, just infront of 1 defensive midfielder. Then 1 CAM followed by 2 strike partners.

    Kwarasey

    Afful Boye Jonathan Davidaddy

    ESSIEN

    ANDRE KWADWOASAMOAH

    SULLEYMUNTARI

    JORDAN RICHMOND

    Subs:

Dauda, Badu, WAKASO, FRIMPONG,Vorsah , akaminko, rahman, mohmed Alhassan, QUINCY, Atsu, acquah, WARRIS.

if you play a formation like thisTRUST ME those two strikers in RICHMOND AND JORDAN WILL DELIVER BEYOND MEASURE. infact in ABUNDANCE, as soon as they CLICK INTO GEAR. This is free advice from my coaching expertise I have suited to the Ghana teamACCORDING TO THE PLAYERS we have AT THE MOMENT. KPB is unavailable, Gyan is 50% DEPRECIATED. Take it or suffer.

My suggested squad and formation for AA:
Maintain the 4-2-3-1 but this time with the following players:
    Yiadom
    Dede-Gyan-Atsu
    Asamoah-Essien
    Afful-vorsah-Boye-Painstil
Gyan is the perfect man to play behind the striker as he’s skillful and he makes impressive assists. Meanwhile he’s also a striker and can score with less pressure on him. This trick should work for you AA.
Drop all those inexperienced mediocre players who just run back and forth for nothing like they are crawling in pig shit.

  12. Tanko says:

Dede did not meet the criteria of camping hence, he was axed by you (AA) You did not meet the promise made before the tournament hence you must resign. Submit a resignation letter now. The die is cast and you must quit

  13. Chu says:

A white never won the AFCON blah blah blah. The same way our own can never send us to the WC. Not to talk of this dafty

  14. SNOW DEMON says:

USELESS ASRE DONKEY OF A COACH. APPIAH U ARE CRAP. A NONCHALANT ITEM OF ABYSIMALITY, A TOTAL LOOSER AND A SUCKER. IDIOT

“I made some tactical errors in the course of the competition,” AND WAS PUNISHED!THIS NOT A COATCH
