Ghana’s coach for the GOtv WAFU Cup Maxwell Konadu says the host nation wants to win this year’s competition as good preparation for the CHAN competition early next year.
The regional tournament for home-based player will be played in November with the local Black Stars drawn in Group A to face Sierra Leone, Benin and Burkina Faso.
The local Black Stars were kept apart from title holders Togo who will play in Group B along with Niger, Senegal and Gabon.
Konadu said he was aiming at achieving a “host-and-win” that eluded the country during the 2008 African Nations Cup.
” We are not going to let Togo take the trophy away again as they did two years ago in Nigeria,” Konadu said
“We will do all we can to keep the cup here and try to do host and win the event. That is what we are all hoping for.
“The fans are now very expectant after the main Black Stars beat Egypt in Kumasi on the 15th of October so we must try to satisfy them.”
Konadu added that the competition was a laudable one that would benefit the West African sub-region.
The tournament kicks off on the 21st of November and finishes on the 28th and it is sponsored by GO Tv from SuperSport who will be supporting the tournament for the next four years.
