Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah has secured assurances from coaches at Orlando Pirates to give first team chances to goalkeeper Fatau Dauda.

The first choice Black Stars goalkeeper is yet to make his debut for the Buccaneers since his move from AshantiGold last summer.

Dauda missed the registration for Pirates’ Champions League campaign over his late arrival and has since played second fiddle to Senzo Meyiwa in the South African league.

The 28-year-old’s situation is a major concern for several Ghanaian football fans who are unhappy with the inactiveness of the first choice Black Stars goalkeeper with a few months to the World Cup in Brazil.

Coach Akwasi Appiah has also admitted to the worrying situation but says he has secured some assurances of the sort from the coaches at Orlando Pirates about his goalkeeper after a recent discussion.

“As at last year the situation was quite worrying but I think it was due to his registration issues for the Champions League,” Appiah told Metro FM.

“We had discussions with him and the coaches there and they have given assurances that they will give him the chance.

“So we hope he gets the chance and not only for Fatau Dauda but for all other Ghanaian players so that their form will pick up.”

Dauda has been Ghana’s first choice since impressing at the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.

It was on the back of his impressive display that earned him the move to Orlando Pirates in the summer.
