Gyasi will not meet Avram Grant next week

Ghana coach Avram Grant will not travel to the United States this week to hold talks with LA Galaxy forward of Ghanaian descent Zardes Gyasi over nationality switch.

The former Chelsea was reported to be on his way to the United States to meet the top scoring striker to convince him to switch nationality to play for the country of the his parents.

However, Grant has arrived in Italy where he is meeting several players including Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien as well as Kwadwo Asamoah and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu.

With just about two weeks to name his squad for the AFCON, chasing Gyasi at this time would not be prudent as the nationality switch process takes a long time.

As he would be unable to secure such players for Ghana, his concentration will be on those who are readily available to play for the Black Stars.

Gyasi who has been linked to Tottenham Hotspurs is yet to be capped by the Yankees at any level and could play for Ghana if the former Chelsea boss is able to convince him.

American national team coach Jurgen Klinsman has hinted he will give Gyasi his first national team call-up in January.

Born to Ghanaian parents in the US, Gyasi can play as a leading striker and also on the left wing.
