In a massive shake-up, Ghana coach Avram Grant has named a provisional 31-man  squad for the 2015 African Cup of Nations without trio Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng while untested Cambridge United striker Kwesi Appiah is among the uncapped quartet named in the squad.

Goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey was also left out of the squad showing that no agreement has been reached over the return of the Norway-born shot stopper to the Black Stars.

Denmark-based Daniel Amartey, Kazashtan-bound midfielder Ibrahim Moro and midfielder Kofi Adu of Swedish Champions League side Malmo are the three other players who have been given their debut call-ups for next month's tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Four other players were handed shock returns to the national team with coach Avram Grant handing recalls to defender Samuel Inkoom, goalkeeper Ernest Sowah, Italy-based Alfred Duncan and Anderlecht star Frank Acheampong.

But the squad is dominated by players who were instrumental in the Black Stars qualification for the tournament with striker Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Baba Rahman and Solomon Asante among the key players for Ghana.

There was a huge expectation for the return of Muntari and the other tow players Essien and Boateng after the former Chelsea manager was held talks with the experienced trio who have been handed indefinite suspension by the Ghana FA following unprofessional conducts at the 2014 World Cup.

The Ghana FA asked them to render an unqualified apology before they would be re-admitted into the team but that never came which means they have been snubbed for the tournament.

Grant’s select pack of players include four debutants Ibrahim Moro who has agreed to move to Kazakh side FC Kairat from AIK Stockholm.

Malmo midfielder Enoch Adu Kofi, fresh from his UEFA Champions League exploits with the Swedish champions, gets a look for the first time.

Unknown on-loan Cambridge United striker Kwesi Appiah and FC Copenhagen’s promising prospect Daniel Amartey completes the list of newcomers.

In-form midfielder Frank Acheampong, who was exciting for Anderlecht in the Champions League, has returned to the squad after being overlooked during the qualifiers.

Houston Dynamos new signing Samuel Inkoom has been given a chance to revive his international career as he was never called up for the qualifiers.

The other outfield returnees includes Middlesbrough winger Albert Adomah and Inter Milan midfielder Alfred Duncan who is on loan at Sampdoria.

DR Congo-based goalkeeper Ernest Sowah, who was an unused goalkeeper at the 2012 Nations Cup finals makes a return to the team following his exploits with Don Bosco.

Ghana’s squad will train in Spain before jetting into Mongomo where they face Group C opponents Senegal, South Africa and Algeria.

Ghana’s preliminary Nations Cup squad:

Goalkeepers: Razak Braimah (Mirandes, Spain), Adams Stephen (Aduana Stars), Fatau Dauda (AshGold) and Ernest Sowah (Don Bosco, DR Congo)
