Ghana coach Avram Grant has joined the country's U20 side at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal after arriving in the country on Wednesday to be an adviser to the technical team of the Black Satellites.
The Israeli, who led the Black Stars to a silver finish at the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, has teamed up with the Satellites coach, Sellas Tetteh and the technical team for the rest of the tournament.
He was in the stands on Thursday when the Black Satellites defeated Zambia 2-1 to qualify for the U20 World Cup to be played in New Zealand.
The former Chelsea manager will play an advisory role for the country’s Under-20 team as they seek to reach the final of the 2015 African Youth Championship.
The 60-year-old is expected to give some advice and tips to the technical team led by Sellas Tetteh.
The Israeli has returned to Ghana after helping the Black Stars achieve a silver medal feat at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Grant is expected to provide technical support to Tetteh, the only coach to have won the World Youth Championship for Africa, when he led the glorious 2009 team on the continent in Rwanda and the globe in Egypt to execute Ghana’s mission at the tournament.
This is Grant’s first assignment since Equatorial Guinea where Ghana lost the finals on penalties to Ivory Coast after regulation and extra time ended goalless.
Ghana, perennial favourites of the tournament and winners in 1993, 1999 and 2009, are chasing a fourth continental glory at the biennial tournament of eight teams.
