Ghana will play South Korea in Miami tonight

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he is keen on his players responding to his tactics over and above getting a win over South Korea in tonight's pre-World Cup friendly in Miami.

But the Black Stars boss admits that the Black Stars confidence will be boosted if they secure the win over the Asians in their last friendly before they depart for Brazil for the World Cup.

Ghana football fans are desperate for the Black Stars to win every match they play in but Appiah insists that his key objective in the match against South Korea is the response of his players to his tactics.

“Friendly games are to help you prepare,” Appiah said.

“It’s always good to win as far as your confidence goes. But, on the other side, I’m looking at technically how we play and, in the roles I assign some players, how they perform.”

Both coaches hope for a raised standard of play before next week. South Korea lost 1-0 to Tunisia in its most recent friendly and has lost three of its last four.

Ghana’s lost its last two friendlies by 1-0 scores also, to Montenegro and the traditionally talented Netherlands.

Montenegro, ranked No. 51 in the latest FIFA world rankings but unsuccessful in World Cup qualifying, actually stands six spots ahead of South Korea.

Ghana is 37th. Only Australia, No. 62, languishes lower in the rankings than South Korea among teams that qualified for the World Cup.
