Coach Akwasi Appiah has hailed Ghanaââ¬â¢s 4-0 win over Sudan â⬓ stressing on the importance of Sundayââ¬â¢s win to the Black Starsââ¬â¢ bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
Two goals in each half scored by Asamoah Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso, Abdul Majeed Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu sealed a sweet victory over Sudan at a packed stadium in Kumasi.
The win amongst other things has won back the lost love of supporters during Ghanaââ¬â¢s disappointing run at the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.
But more crucially, the win has seen the Black Stars close the gap on leaders Zambia to just one point in the race for the sole progressive ticket in Group D for the 2014 World Cup.
And coach Appiah agrees on how vital the win over Sudan is in Ghanaââ¬â¢s bid to qualify for third straight World Cup finals.
ââ¬ÅIt was really important that we try to get a win today, it was an important game not for me but for Ghanaians,â⬠he said at the post-match conference.
ââ¬ÅOur main aim is to try and qualify the nation to the World Cup and to do that we needed to win tonightââ¬â¢s game in order to progress to the next stage.ââ¬
Ghana is now just one point behind Zambia who drew 1-1 away to Lesotho before the Black Stars took to the field to dismantle the Nile Crocodiles.
The Black Stars will now play two away games against Sudan and then Lesotho before finishing up their Group D campaign with a potential decider against Zambia back home in Ghana.
