Ghana captain Gyan hails President-elect John Mahama

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has congratulated John Mahama on his election as President of Ghana.

The incumbent was declared winner of the December 7 election on Sunday after polling 50.70% of the total valid votes cast as against closest contender Nana Akuffo-Addo who polled 47.74%.

The elections also saw the NDC sweep majority of the parliamentary seats to spark wild jubilation across the country especially in the NDC’s strongholds.

And Gyan who will be leading Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in a terse congratulatory statement to the President-elect, also hailed the conduct of Ghanaians during the elections.

“I want to congratulate President John Mahama on his election and also congratulate Ghanaians for ensuring a peaceful elections,” the statement copied to GHANAsoccernet.com read.

The Black Stars striker proceeded to pledge his side’s commitment to bringing further honour to the country by winning the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.

“Ghanaians should enjoy and cherish this moment and hopefully there will be more enjoyment when we win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.”

Ghana will be hoping to win a fifth African title – the first after 31-years by the time the tournament kicks off in South Africa.

The Black Stars however have to first progress from Group B which has Mali, Niger and DR Congo as contenders.
