Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been awarded the Tourism Ambassador of the Year at the annual National Tourism Awards held over the weekend.

The Al Ain striker is being honoured for selling the country on the international stage mainly through his football.

The Black Stars captain has evolved into one of the easily recognizable football stars in the World.

His unfortunate penalty miss against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup has shot him to worldwide fame.

A citation following the award said his leadership role in the team had seen it going places while ensuring that the football credentials of the country is showcased in the international arena.

His brother, Baffuor Gyan, received the award on behalf of the Al Ain ace who was influential in Ghana's recent qualification to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Gyan’s part-time music career has also thrived in the past years just like his football.

His famous featured single ‘African Girls’ caught up like wild fire on its release after the 201o World Cup.

Subsequent hit singles ‘Do the Dance’ and ‘Odo Pa’ has also enjoyed massive airplays all over the globe.

The 28-year-old who now plays his football in the UAE recently played an integral role in Ghana’s qualification to next year’s World Cup in Brazil – where he will again be relied upon to help Ghana progress even further than the previous campaign in South Africa.
