Asamoah Gyan in massive endorsement of Kwesi Appiah

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has endorsed the retention of coach Kwesi Appiah amidst reports he will soon be vacating his post.

Increasing media reports in Ghana suggests Appiah will be stepping down as Black Stars coach once he is told of an impending appointment of a technical director to supervise his work.

The Ghana FA per the reports wants to boost the Ghana technical team with the appointment of a technical director as against Appiah’s wishes.

The former Asante Kotoko defender is expected back in the country by the weekend after ending his vacation.

He will be told of the decision of the appointment of the technical director on his return where he is reported to reject fatly and resign if it is insisted upon by the GFA.

But captain Asamoah Gyan is adamant Appiah remains the right man to take the team forward despite the team’s woeful display at the 2014 World Cup.

“Kwesi Appiah is a very good coach. I will be disappointed if someone met some players [over Appiah’s possible departure],” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“I am the captain and they should have consulted me.

“Kwesi Appiah introduced most of the current players into the team and gave them the chance to excel.

“At the moment we have a strong team that makes the future bright. What Kwesi Appiah needs now is the support of the public and the GFA.”

Ghana has two big games next month in the qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars will host Uganda in the opening qualifier on September 6 before travelling to face Togo four days later.
