Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has jumped to defence of Emmanuel Adebayor saying the Togo captain cannot be blamed for the country’s washed-out 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Cup campaign.

Adebayor has been criticized for his failing to inspire the Hawks to qualify for next year’s finals in Equatorial Guinea.

The Tottenham Hotspur man led Togo to a crushing 3-1 defeat to Ghana on Wednesday which ended their campaign.

Gyan says it unfair to single out the former Arsenal striker for criticism.

“We are talking a team here. Sometimes things go right, sometimes things don’t go right. For me I can’t assess his game because he can call three and the team can loses five," the Al Ain man said.

"You cannot take a player out and ask about his performance.

"Talking about Sheyi, everybody knows Sheyi can do. Adebayor is a great. He is one of the best players Africa has ever produced. I have got respect for him. He is the captain of the team and he is still going strong.”
