Olympique Marseille star Andre Ayew has begun light training to give Ghana a massive boost with just over a month to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old suffered a groin injury while on international duty for the Black Stars in their penultimate 2015 AFCON qualifier against Uganda.

The son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele is expected to be out for three weeks.

Ayew has however responded well to treatment and is already working with the ball in light training sessions.

The 2011 BBC Africa Footballer of the Year has not played for Marseille in their last two games.

Coach Marcelo Bielsa is desperate to have his influential forward back to help the side strengthen its lead at the top of Ligue 1 before the winter break.

Ayew’s gradual return to full fitness is also good news for Ghana who has been hit with a massive injury blow with Juventus star Kwadwo Asamoah set to undergo surgery.

Ghana will be hoping not to sustain any more injuries ahead of their campaign at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where the Black Stars will be playing under new coach Avram Grant.
