Ghana await approval to wear armband for bereaved Annan

Published on: 03 February 2012

The Ghana Football Association has asked Caf to allow our players to wear the black armband in memory of the mum of Anthony Annan who died on Thursday.

President Kwesi Nyantakyi, who doubles as Caf's venue head for Franceville, has written to continent's governing body for permission.

If granted, the Black Stars will wear the armbands in their quarter-final clash against Tunisia on Sunday.

Annan has been a key player for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations having started in all their three matches so far.

His mother Sophia Sampson passed away on Thursday at the Cape-Coast hospital after a short illness.
