Ghana midfielder Michael Essien wants to build on his first start of the season for AC Milan after Sunday's Serie A win over Hellas Verona.

Essien was impressive after replacing suspended Nigel de Jong in the starting line-up and did creditably well partnering compatriot Sulley Muntari.

The former Chelsea man, who battled injuries at the start of the season, announced his readiness to feature more games for the Rossoneri.

“The game against Verona wasn’t easy but we gave our best and we came out on top,” Essien said.

“Personally, it was great to earn my starting place back on the pitch. I play where Inzaghi asks me to play. It doesn’t matter where.

“He is our manager and obviously he is important to us. He is doing a great job.

“He leaves us a lot of freedom on the pitch, he encourages us to fight in every situation and we play some good football.”
