Ghana is abandoning earlier considerations of  holding their pre-2014 World Cup camp in the United States about being put in the same group with the north Americans in the tournament in Brazil.

The Ghana FA and the Ministry of Sports had earlier considered the possibility of having the Black Stars prepare in the United States for next year’s finals.

The United States' superior training facilities and proximity to Brazil gave stronger grounds for its consideration as some team will also be camping there to boost their preparations.

This plan will however be abandoned after Ghana was drawn against the USA in a tough World Cup group which also includes Germany and Portugal.

The Ghanaian authorities don’t want to risk anything by camping in enemy’s territory for the finals.

“There was an initial suggestion that we camp in America to prepare the team for the tournament due to some facilities there,” Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah told Metro FM.

“But now that we have been drawn against America, we cannot go and camp in enemy’s territory.

“So that suggestion needs to be reviewed to see whether we will camp in Europe or Asia, it is up to the technical team and the FA.”

Ghana will begin its third successive World Cup campaign against USA on June 16 in Natal.

The Black Stars will then face Germany and Portugal in the remaining group games in Fortaleza and Brasilia on June 20 and 24 respectively.
