Ghana?s Image Will Suffer If We Keep On Using Incendiary Language

Posted On Thursday, 19th April 2012

A former president of the ECOWAS Commission, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, is worried the current development could have a negative toll on the international image of Ghana.

Ambassador Victor Gbeho who is currently serving as the Presidential Advisor on Foreign Affairs told XYZ News, Ghanaians who are agitated about the ongoing prosecution of the Assin North MP must calm down.

Speaking in an interview with XYZ News, the renowned diplomat said ?no useful purpose will be served in altercating or fighting one another or demonstrating on the streets.?

He urged Ghanaians to calm down and allow the law to function. ?A state like Ghana can only operate efficiently if it is based on the rule of law. Nothing else will do.?

Amb. Victor Gbeho reiterated that Ghana should be able to prove to the world it can manage its internal disagreements after holding five successful elections in the past.

?You can?t be a respected person in your house and then be found one day beating your wife or promoting violence in your house? We should be able to live above that.?

He indicated that the clash between the police and supporters of the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong last Monday, after the latter was arrested for making what has been described as treasonable comments could mar the democratic credentials of the country.

?Obviously, Ghana?s image will suffer if we keep on using incendiary language? I think we all need to pause and work out how we are going to defend the proud record as a peace loving country and as a country that can hold elections without fighting,? he counseled.
