The Ghana Football Association has rubbished allegations that some players invited prostitutes into the Black Stars camp and had sex with them at the just ended 2013 Africa Cup Nations.
Defender John Painstil is among the players accused by a local football fan of committing the act.
The Kumasi-based football fan popularly called Appiah Stadium accused the Hapeol Tel Aviv player of having sexual intercourse with the ladies.
But in a strongly-worded statement released by the GFA, the federation rejected the allegation insisting security measures put to place
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA)’s attention has been drawn to allegations of prostitutes invading the camp of the Black Stars during the recent African Cup of Nations campaign in South Africa,” the GFA statement read.
“The GFA wishes to state emphatically that the allegation is false and has no basis in fact.
“The GFA put in place strict security measures around the team to ensure that all players and officials were under constant watch to avoid such issues at all times during the competition.
“We are very satisfied with the output of the state security officers attached to the Black Stars as well as the strong assistance they got from the South Africa state security agencies protecting the team.
“The team has a strict code of conduct and any player found guilty of breaking any of the codes would have been dealt with severely.”
The statement added that all the players in camp comported themselves well during the competition saying claims of entertaining escorts must be disregarded.
“The players’ commitment to adhering to the laid-down laws of the team before and during the tournament was unquestionable and at no point in time was any player found guilty of entertaining unwanted guests,” the statement said.
“The Black Stars are ambassadors of our dear nation and the GFA remains committed to ensuring that players who present the nation always behave responsibly on and off the field to serve as worthy role models to children worldwide.
“We want to assure the general public that the GFA is working hard to ensure that when the Black Stars are fully focused on qualifying the team to the 2014 World Cup.”
How can a rumor initiated by a hapless football fan who had no access to the quarters of Black Star players during the AFCON 2013 tournament be TAKEN SERIOUSLY? This buffoon might have an ax to grind with Paintsil, who knows? But to accuse someone of such a nefarious act and not provide evidence of it, is tantamount to character assassination. The law should take its course; this idiot in Kumasi should not go scot free.
