GFA looks to Congress for Premier League salvation
Ghana Premier League's start has been delayed

The Ghana FA’s Congress is left with a major decision to take in order to save this season’s Ghana Premier League from further delay.

The start of the Ghanaian top flight has been suspended indefinitely due to a court case against the GFA by relegated King Faisal.

Faisal want to be reinstated into the Ghanaian top flight over a technicality against Aduana Stars but the GFA is unwilling.

The Kumasi-based club where thus compelled to go to court – a move the GFA statutes frowns on – to seek justice.

There is however the option of maintaining Faisal in the Premier League – meaning the number of teams in the Ghanaian top flight will be increased.

This option has been challenges by some leading members of the Ghana FA who claim that will amount to an illegality.

It now appears the GFA is in the position of being caught in between the hard rock and the deep blue sea.

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi now turns to his Congress – the highest decision making body – to free his outfit from this legal servitude.

“We have considered all the options available to both parties,” he told Kessben FM.

“The first option was to let the court case travel its normal course so we have to wait as long as the case in court ends.

“The second option was for King Faisal to withdraw the court case for us to start the league.

“The third option is also for King Faisal to be maintained in the league but that means an extension in the number of clubs in the Premier League.

“That decision is however not for the Executive Committee or the Emergency Committee to take. It is a decision for only Congress.”

This season’s Ghana Premier League is increasingly looking like it will be called off entirely with each passing day over the several adjournments in the court case.
