Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes the Black Stars are ready to rough shoulders with the best teams in the world in his bid to make history by clinching the 2014 World Cup.

Ghana will be making only its third successive appearance at the finals but there is a subtle growing believe of the team’s title credentials in Brazil due to its unique blend of youth, quality and experience.

The Black Stars were fabulous during their qualifying campaign for June’s finals – losing only twice in eight games – including the epic playoffs against Egypt.

The four-time African champions must however first make it out of a tough group including Germany, Portugal and the USA.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah however believes his side is primed to match up to the best in the world when it matters most at the grand stage in Brazil.

“No one can say Germany and Portugal or even USA are not good teams,” he said in a recording aired by Accra-based Hot FM.

“But I believe we are better. I always say you cannot go to a tournament like the World Cup and say you want to win it but don’t want to play the best teams.

“Whatever be the case, you will play the big teams and I believe our team is good enough to play against these sides.”

Ghana was a penalty kick away from making history as the first African side to make it through to the last four at the World Cup in the last edition held four years ago in South Africa.

The football-crazy Ghanaian public are now willing the team to at least make this elusive record a reality in Brazil.

There are however a growing minority who believe the Black Stars will excel beyond measure by annexing the trophy which has only been won by teams from South America and Europe.
