German police are investigating the possible involvement of the ex-wife of Kevin-Prince Boateng in the Christmas day physical attack on the Ghana international which left him traumatised, needing medical treatment.

The security officials are investigating if Jenny, the ex-wife of Boateng, orchestrated the attack or through a new lover because the attack happened few moments after he had left her flat.

This comes after Boateng filed a criminal complaint through Schalke lawyer Klaus Bernsmann with the police for assault against an unknown person which has promtped a CCTV investigation and also talks to witnesses about the attack on Christmas day.

The police are watching hours of CCTV in Kaarst near Dusseldorf where the attack took place to verify if Jenny might have had a hand in it out of jealousy.

But that is not the only line of investigations - sources close to the player have told Ghana's leading football news outlet, GHANAsoccernet.com.

Investigators suspect that maybe the attacker is the new boyfriend of Boateng's ex-wife Jenny, who might have committed the crime out of jealousy.

“There is is evidence that the motivation for such an assault is from someone with a personal interest in this issue," Kaarst police spokesman, Hans -Willi Arnold hinted at the key suspects they are looking for.

However, these are all just speculations. The police investigation will examine all the possibilities.

Key to their investigations are witnesses to the attack and the CCTV footage of the incident.

The feast of Christmas was for the Schalke star a celebration of punches after an unknown man physically attacked Boateng with over left-hooks and uppercuts which left him dazed moments after visiting his son who lives with his ex-wife.

Boateng visited his five-year-old son Jermaine-Prince Boateng, who lives with his mother on  Christmas day to bring the boy gifts and played with him for about one hour before the midfielder's attacker pounced with punches to the face and stomach.

As Boateng then left the house after spending time with his son, he met his Christmas shock - an unidentified man gave the midfielder a hard slap in the face and pushed him back so hard that Boateng fell on his back which led to some injuries to his back.

Then the attacker fled.

Boateng remains confident that the perpetrators will be arrested quickly so that he can visit his young son again peacefully.

Boateng himself is in a relationship with Italian Melissa Satta. The couple is expecting a child.
