German-born midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng says his decision to play for Ghana has connected him to his roots insisting he is ‘increasingly Ghanaian’ since switching his international allegiance.

The Schalke midfielder switched his nationality in 2010 to play for the country of his father and has revealed that he is now eating Ghanaian food regularly at his Dusseldorf base.

Boateng admits his decision to switch the nationality has made him a role model for several Africans and he is delighted to connect with his roots as he was born the a German mother and Ghanaian father in Germany.

“I feel increasingly Ghanaian. I’m discovering that side of me, but I’ve definitely still got a lot to learn about the country and its culture,” Boateng told FIFA Weekly.

“Until 2010 I had never visited Ghana before, but the national team gave me a warm welcome. I’ve since grown to love it and now I even eat Ghanaian food at home in Dusseldorf.

“I know there are a lot of young children in Africa that want to grow up to be like me, so I think it’s important to be a good role model.”

Since switch his nationality, Boateng has played 11 matches for Ghana and scored two goals.

Boateng is expected to line up for Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
