Ghanaian-born ex-Germany international Gerald Asamoah was racially abused during Greuther Fuerth’s DFB Pokal semi-final game against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz hurled racist language at the former Schalke 04 attacker after the two had been separated from a clash during the course of play.
Greuther Fuerth defender Mevrim Mavaraj, who was at the spot, says he heard the abusive language from the Dortmund player.
“He uttered something about Asamoah’s origin.Too bad we still talk about these things in football nowadays,” Mavaraj said.
“Not to talk about the fact that Grosskreutz is a national team player. I won’t say much else the DFB will ask me for an official statement. ”
Asamoah, 34, suffered a similar abuse in 2006 from Hansa Rostock fans bagging a brace against them in a 9-1 cricket scoreline game.
The German federation is expected to rule on the case next week.
