Ghanaian-born German striker Gerald Asamoah has been fined 17,000 Euros for drunk-driven.

The Schalke forward was found guilty of the offence when he appeared before a German court  on Thursday.

The incident took place in March this year when he lost control of his Volkswagen Phaeton and hit a tree under the influence of alcohol.

The 36-year-old has also had his license revoked for seven months as he suffered light injuries during the accident.

The player has issued a statement to apologise for the incident. “As a father of children you should not such a foolish thing. Even as a celebrity you can’t just do what you want.”
