Mubarak Wakaso scores 1,500th AFCON goal

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso went into the history books with his goal against hosts Equatorial Guinea in added-on time of the first half counting as the 1500th goal in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations since its inception in 1957. That encounter was also the 603rd game of the competition.

The 1000th goal was scored by Nigerian Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha on 31 January 2004 in Monastir. He converted a penalty in the 64th during the Nigeria-South Africa group phase clash which the Nigerians won 4-0.
