Free agent Mensah to train with Stade Rennes

Posted On Tuesday, 13th November 2012

John Mensah will train with French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes

French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes have confirmed Ghana defender John Mensah will train with their first team.

The 29-year-old has been without a club since leaving giants Olympique Lyons in June.

“He has been a free agent since last June and club has agreed that he trains here to keep in shape,” Rennes general manager Pierre Dréossi said.

Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Tel Aviv and Turkish side Trabzonspor were linked with a move for the towering defender.

He played for Rennes between the 2006 and 2008 season.

Oh Real Sebacious, u got me choked wit suppressed laughter. I just can’t stop laughing.
Mr. John ‘Jesus’ Mensah sld undastand dat in life there is a TAXING POINT, TAKE OFF POINT & a STOP POINT. Nothing last 4rever. He sld obey the Red traffic light to save the CRUSH . Its just so sad he has to be d ‘Ledley King’ of GH soccer!- Durable in Quality but Malleable to fitness.

    • Robb says:

It’s only Ghanaians that talk like that. Do a little research of all soccer countries in the world. We are the very people that destroy our talents and our football.

We bring players down so easily. John Mensah was our goal king at Gabon, he has been our best defender and still is.
A half fit Mensah is better than Lee Addy and Vorsah combined. Let’s allow him to live his life just like we are doing.

A wise coach will call him to motivate the players and assist with back room staff as well, and to include Stephen Appiah to psyche up the players.

But Akwasi Appiah is avoiding these experienced ex-captains for no reason, some countries would wish they had players like Mensah and Appiah. OH GHANA

      • Jerro,Greece says:

Thank you Robb.I had the luxury of meeting The Rock at the kotoka International Airport last Friday on my way to Europe and lo and behold, the Guy was a youngman in stature and fit as a fiddle. As to why we discourage our sportsmen with all those name calling, i dont know but i can say from what i saw of him that the guy can still play for a very long time. Lets encourage our past heroes with all the respect they deserve.

No coach would call players who don’t have a club!! Name one such player on any of the top 5 teams in the world.

  4. SANTROFI ANOMAA says:

WELL SAID ROBB! GHANAIANS NEVER NEVER DO ENCOURAGE THEIR STARS WITH POSITIVE WORDS ALWAYS NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE PLAYERS. LOOK AT CAPITO STEVE APPIAH HE IS STILL GOOD AND HAVE MORE SOCCER IN HIM, MORE EXPERIENCE.THAT IS WHY OUR GAMES ARE ONE WAY, AND MOMENT COACHES HEAR THOSE COMMENTS THEY TAKE IT AND NEVER CALL THEM AGAIN.OH OMAN GHANA WHEN DABEN.YOU SAW HOW COACH MILO BROUGHT BACK TO MOTIVATE THE PLAYERS, COACH APPIAH SHOULD LOOK INTO THAT SERIOUSLY.

  5. Gada says:

I here by charge u young boy John Mensah 29 for causing financial lost to the clubs.

  6. Blow says:

Our problems are very simple; we don’t have coaches with foresight. Our coaches cannot breath fresh life into our experience players, instead, they throw cold water on them and retire them with impunity. Can any of these coaches dismantle the B stars and pick a new team based on his tactical knowledge, Big No! they go for an already made team. We need John in the team with a replacement on standby in case of injury.
