Frank Acheampong scores winner for Buriram United in Asian Champions League

Posted On Wednesday, 21st March 2012

Ghanaian youngster Frank Acheampong scored the winner for Buriram United who stunned Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande 2-1 in the Asian Champions League.

The Thai Premier League champions went top of Group H with maximum six points following their second successive victory.

Acheampong was instrumental in both goals for Buriram United who have qualified for the event for the first time.

The Ghana Under-20 player earned a penalty for his side in the 62nd minute when he was brought down in the area by Guangzhou goalkeeper Jun Yang who could count himself lucky for only receiving a yellow card from the incident.

Suchao converted from the spot to put Buriram into a 1-0 lead.

Guangzhou stepped up their attacking force in search of an equaliser and their effort paid off seven minutes later when their Brazilian striker Gabriel Cleo Condova headed home a Muriqui Muriqui cross from the left.

Acheampong restored Buriram’s lead 10 minutes later by scoring from close range.

Jirawat Makkhrarom fed Franck Ohandza with a through ball on the right and the Cameroonian made a nice turn and passed to an onrushing Acheampong.

Buriram United will next play Korean champions Jeonbuk on April 4 in Buriram.

@allubi I tell you the standard of play was far and far better than Ghana league. I was really surprised when I watched the match. We make noise so much about european leagues far enough. But considering what I saw yesterday the asian leagues has improved so much.
It is time we encourage these guys plying their trade in those leagues because they are also Ghanaians and can be BS materials.
