Former Ghana youth Adams wants Boateng to shoulder AFCON responsibilities

Saddick Adams expect Boateng to carry Ghana on his shoulders at AFCON

Former Ghana U-17 star striker Saddick Adams expects experienced midfielder Derek Boateng to carry Ghana on his shoulders at the 2013 AFCON.

The 29-year-old Fulham-bound is one of the most experienced players in the Ghana team after making three AFCON appearances.

Boateng made his AFCON bow in the 2002 tournament hosted in Mali just after helping Ghana finish second in the 2001 World Youth Championship.

Adams who is back home with Berekum Chelsea wants the former FC Cologne midfielder to shoulder most of the responsibilities in South Africa.

“Derek Boateng is one good player and his experience will be very crucial to the team,” he said.

“This team is a blend of experience and youth and I think the senior players will have to use their experience to help the team.”

I GAVE DERECK BATENG ALL MY RESPECT AND SUPPORT:HE WILL SURELY BE THE BEST PLAYER OF TOURNAMENT!

  2. julius says:

    he is a great player.

  3. GHFUO, THINK BIG! says:

he neeDS TO KEEP IT SIMPLE. NO MORE STUPID BACKPASSES.
    1. DISRUPT N BREAK ATTACKS FROM OUR OPPONENTS
    2. DELIVER THE BALL TO THE WINGERS AND STRIKERS, AND REST!

  4. Dr Who says:

Derek is good but AA should start him from the bench.Annan and Badu will be better against congo who are usually very physical in their games.

    • Experience Coach says:

      Dr. Who,

You dont know what you are talking about. Derek Boateng is better in the midfield than Annan. Annan can’t dribble and only passes the ball backwards a lot of times. However, Derek is able to hold the ball, dribble, and distribute passes as needed. He is also very strong and it is hard to get pass him with the ball.

IF AKWASI APPIAH WANTS A STRONGER GHANA SIDE, THEN DEREK BOATENG SHOULD ALWAYS BE USED. HE IS THE NUCLEUS OF THE TEAM. I’VE ALWAYS SAID THAT.

ANNAN IS EQUALLY GOOD BUT HE PLAYS TOO DEFENSIVE WHICH DOES NOT HELP OUR STRIKERS UPFRONT.

      GO DEREK !!!

  5. That´s what ayew is saying.. says:

Shocked Andre Ayew: I’m not angry, but disappointed over Ghana’s Afcon snub

“On Sunday evening, I was taking the plane to the selection, but I got the information at the last minute as I was told by the coach not to come,” Ayew revealed.

“It was shocking. The coach based on the fact that he only wanted players [who are 100%], which is surprising because apparently there are a lot of casualties there.”

He added: “Discipline I speak of, but they were aware that I would be late, discipline. I gave everything for the selection, so it is not easy to accept.

“I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed. It made me know some people in the staff and federation.”

“Ghana is a big nation. There are things happening that are not normal, Kevin Prince Boateng issue shows that there are reasons,” Ayew added.

  6. Dr Who says:

@experience coach, its good you acknowledged that Annan is better defensively.Derek only gives short passes with zero defensive skills. No wonder we lost twice to zambia who had the likes of Katongo & Kalaba run easily pass him in counter attacks. Both play as defensive midfielders so if you admit that Annan is defensively better then you agree with me.

    • Coach Mensah says:

I will choose Derek over Annan because Derek can also defend when needed and he is able to give long passes as well. I would not blame him for Zambia’s victory. It had to do with our defends: in the African cup last year, we all saw that it was Paintsil’s fault.

When Ghana travelled to Zambia, the problem I think was Vorsah who had reacted slow as he does at times. I think our defends have to be extra careful this time, especially Paintsil who allows balls to pass him when there is a good dribbler.

Good luck Black Stars of Ghana!!!

  9. braquarme says:

@ gynico luv, pantsil did play that very quarter semi final game against Zambia
