Ghana international midfielder Anthony Annan has agreed to quit German side Schalke 04 to save his career, according to reports in the German press.

The 27-year-old has not appeared in a Bundesliga game for the Royal Blues the whole of the season after returning from a loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem.

Schalke manager Jens Keller has not considered the former Hearts of Oak midfield fan-belt for domestic games since his return from a long injury lay-off.

And Annan has agreed in principle with the club to terminate his contract at the end of the current season.

Schalke were considering farming him out to Bundesliga II side VfL Bochum before the start of the season but the deal could not materialised.

After spending almost a season without action, the former IK Start midfielder has agreed to leave the club to get his career back on track.

He joined Schalke from Rosenborg BK three seasons ago but has now fallen out of favour at the Gelsenkirchen.

Annan has dropped down the pecking order at the Black Stars due to his lack of activity at club level.
