Former Hearts of Oak star Charles Taylor says the Premier League is no more exciting because of the eroding number of quality players.

The Ghanaian top flight has struggled to command numbers at venues during match days despite consistent efforts by authorities to enhance the competition.

The Ghana FA earlier this year sealed a landmark sponsorship agreement with First Capital Plus Bank worth $10m over the next five years as part of concerted efforts to improve the Premier League.

The landmark sponsorship agreement has however not translated proportionally to patronage of games despite innovative efforts by the headline sponsors.

Charles Taylor who excited many fans during his most prosperous stint with Hearts of Oak has identified the lack of quality players as the main reason for the lowered interest in the Ghana Premier League.

“If you assess the league matches we play here in Ghana, there no exceptional players around,” he told Metro FM.

“I went to see a game after being told of an exciting talent and I was left very disappointed.

It appears quality players are in shortage in Ghana.

“In our time, there were quality players all over and that is what commanded high turnout of fans at the various venues.”
