Ex-Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac rules out imminent Black Stars return

Posted On Friday, 8th March 2013

Milovan Rajevac will not return to the Black Stars job soon

Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac has rubbished reports linking him to the Ghana coaching position insisting Kwesi Appiah is capable of steering the Black Stars to the World Cup.

A section of the Ghanaian media had speculated this week that Rajevac was being lined-up to take over the position following the Black Stars unimpressive showing at the recent Africa Cup of Nations

According to a media report, the Serbian has held talks with the Ghana Football Association and looks set to take over from Kwesi Appiah after this month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sudan.

Rajevac, who had a successful two-year spell in-charge of the Black Stars, has been on the job market after being sacked as head coach of Qatar in August 2011.

He was spotted in the stands at the Mbombela Stadium during Ghana’s semi-final loss to Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations.

That has heightened speculation that he is inching closer to a return but he has rubbished that.

“He just came to support the team and nothing else. There was no negotiations not even with another African team,” Nenad Glisic, who worked as an interpreter for Rajevac during his stay in Ghana, told Accra-based Joy FM.

“I spoke to coach and he said at this moment Ghana has an excellent coach and Kwesi Appiah has a lot of experience.

“He ( Kwesi Appiah) working with coach and he is a great friend for the lifetime and coach respects him a lot and he (Rajevac) thinks Appiah will do a good job.”

Ghana will play Sudan later this month in Kumasi.
