Ghanaian defender Peter Oduro Kwarteng played full throttle for Petrojet in their 1-1 stalemate against Wadi Degla as the Egyptian Premier League season kicks off on Monday.

The 18-year-old was towering at the back for the Suez-based side as they were held at home by their opponent.

The former Hearts of Oak intelligent centre-back is expected to play a key role for Petrojet this term to enhance his chances of making Ghana’s Under-20 squad.

The Egyptian season returns to a one group format, after two successive championships were cancelled midway and a third was held in a two-group format which Ahly won.

The season will be held behind closed doors due to security concerns, like all domestic matches in Egypt since February 2012, when 72 Ahly fans died in crowd clashes in Port Said stadium.
