Renowned football stars have arrived in Accra for Wednesday’s Michael Essien Peace Charity Match.
Chelsea quartet Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Ashley Cole and Florent Malouda touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
They were joined by former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg, former Africa and World best player of the Year George Oppong-Weah, Emmanuel Adebayor
Ghana defender John Painstil and Quincy Owusu-Abeyie were on board the flight
Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has joined his former team mates for the charity match.
Chelsea youth defender Daniel Pappoe was also spotted in the pack of players on arrival.
An African XI select side will play a World XI select side at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on African Unity Day.
Hope the leadres of Africa see wisdom in what this young man is doing. Peace is eluding the continent because of our leadres attitude of greed, dishonesty, selfishness, among others leading to their desire to entrench themselves in power.
I pray Mugabe and Yoweri Museveni attend this game.

WHO CARES IF DIS MATCH IS SHOWN ON GTV OR SUPER SPORTS, IT PAINS ME DAT ESSIEN IS TAKING AN AVERAGE GHANAIANS FOOTBALL AFFICIANODO’S FOR GRANTED,HE THINKS HE CAN BUY FAVOUR FRM US BY BRINGING SOM RETIRED &SOM SEMI RETIRED PLAYERS TO GHANA TO DECEIVE SOM FANS DAT HE IS FIGHTING A WHORTY CAUSE, WHILE HE IS DOING NOTHING,HE SHUD RATHER TK HIS NXT CHARITY TO A PLACE LIKE LIBYA & AFGHANISTAN BY SO DOING WE’LL BELIEVE HE IS GENUINE PEACE AMBASSADOR,LONG LIVE D PEOPLE OF GHANA.
As we all can see Essien is trying to make Africa proud and give u guys back what som of u guys gave to him as fans by bringing the stars to Ghana. He is trying to entertain and raise funds for the less priviledged so u better appreciate or shut ur mouth
RUBBISH. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ESSIEN PLAYED FOR GHANA (BLACK STARS)??
I often disagree with you on ur commitment to national course, I must acknowledge ur commitment to peace in Africa.Well done Mr Essien.
so when will all this stop in Ghana even as they says is a peace match but still some people are selling the ticket more than what is was announce and you can’t even get some of the ticket to buy ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why Ghana
Kwabena Pofilio, u said it all!!…real rap!!
Gud work done by Essien. Hopefully, this will help to end conflict in African. I Wish all players ‘akwaaba’ to land of gold.
GTV and GTV sports Plus have confirmed showing it at 2pm and 1:30pm respectively. The latter will however start with the arrival ceremony and some interviews. I de biiiiiiiii k3k3
Is ma prayer dat 2ru dis charity match africans wil learn 2 no dat in everything we shld make peace de king.Essin u r welcom bak in2 blak stars.
I am shocked that the initial comments that greeted the announcement of this peace match have all fled into thin air. This is a typical Ghanaian attitude. We criticize at the least provocation or frustration. It is obvious Ghana can’t do without Essien. He is a ‘god’ in the Black Stars.SHAME 2 U ALL CRITICS OF HATE.Please don’t watch the match bcos u’ll have SHAME written on ur conscience and face.
I hope this match will be on supersport;so everybody can see it,well done essien for d match.as 4 black stars u are not welcome, now u want to use black stars to revive your personal ambitions,I say no we must chase u out of ghana go to chelsea,we don’t need u.we have players dat are devoted to national team
Yes God will bless this match to have some impact on African leaders. May God bless and protect those who will feature in this match. God bless Essien!! Long Live Africa!!
the match is okey but what impact will it have on peace, let us not be fooling ourselves.what is never done in africa interms of peace, look at what is going on in ivory coast, take a look the northern part of africa, all because our leaders refuse to acknowlegde the fundermental human right how can you rule for over forty years. come on africa, wake up africa your childrens are crying.the only thing that would bring peace is by renewing our mine and the way we treat one another respect for the ballot box give democracy the control, leave the selfishness,be our brothers sisters keeper, long AFRICA LONG LIVE AFRICA.
my broda, u are getin d whole tin wrongly! do u no d cost of rebel leaders and gangs watching dis match? that amounts to over 100 000 lives saved! now these rebels, or lets just say these p’ple fighting, will, for over 24 hrs (considering pre-match and post-match discussions time), leave their guns, their discussions and plans (which could b made 4 years of war) for war just 2 c dis match! now d economist would say dat the ‘opportunity cost’ for the a rebel seeing dis match amounts to d live he culd hav killed with d same time… plus, by watchin dis match he would b aware that the match is sending information to them to stop fighting! and even if one rebel is converted bcos of this match then we are gettin there gradually… so u c, my broda, its all about creating awarenes on peace usin this match!!! GOD BLESS AFRICA!!!
This match is supposed to be played in Ivory Coast or Libya,Tunisia,Egypt or Sudan where there are still conflicts of war, that is if it is to foster peace in Africa………..Everybody knows that Ghana is a peaceful country already.
This is indeed a laudable initiative by all standards. Essien must be encouraged. I hope the match would be telecast live on our screens. African leaders must take cue from this wonderful act. Kudos to all the ex and present soccer stars who are lining up for this great match.
I guess they will show it at Accra Sports Stadium for certain….
@ rastaman…the match will be telecast live at 2.45 local time on tv3
What time does it start?
i know that the much will help promote peace in africa that was a good idea i wish all the best a warm welcome to the winning team…big ups.
When is the match?
ESSIEN IS ONLY TRYING TO REDEEM HIS LOST IMAGE. I AM NOT FASCINATED BY THE LINE-UP. WHAT? PAPPOE? YOU SEE ESSIEN’S OWN FRIENDS HAVE DECLINED HIS INVITATION. I THINK HE HAS DONE WELL FOR AFRICA AND GHANA BUT FOR HIM TO HAVE DECLINED TO PLAY FOR BLACK STARS WHILE HE PLAYED EVERY WEEK FOR CHELSEA. I THINK HE IS JUST NOT NATIONALISTIC. I THINK PEOPLE LIKE JOHN MENSAH, PELE AND APPIAH HAVE SHOWN THE WAY.
Live now on supersport 3
shame unto ‘essien’ becos of dis match he announced his return to รจ B.Stars
im watching the match live on ghana’s tv3 and its very clear. on this website, clic on “Watch live Ghana TV at the top right of this Ghanasoccernet website , choose TV3 on that page and it may asked you to install tvU, which is the program to run tv3. then restart internet explorer or safari. not sure though if it supports on safari and firefox instead of internet explorer so GOODLUCK!
