Fenerbahçe in shock move for Ghana star Michael Essien

Turkish giants Fenerbahçe have launched an audcious bid to sign Ghana midfielder Michael Essien. 

The Yellow Canaries will make an official bid for the services of the 29-year -old subject on Wednesday Champions League return fixture against Spartak Moscow.

The Istanbul club want to invest in a central midfielder should they qualify to the group phase of the European competition.

Essien is touted as the replacement for Emre Belozgou who has joined Spanish side Athletico Madrid.

The Ghanaian international  joined Chelsea for €38 million from Lyon in 2005 and has gone onto play 247 games for the Blues. 

The Ghana international has however, suffered with recurring injuries especially over the past few seasons which have limited his playing time.

Essien is currently on wages within the Canaries budget, the 29-year-old midfielder is contracted to the London club until 2015.
