Ghana Under-20 assistant coach Yaw Preko has warned against pressing the panic button ahead of the side’s trip to Gabon for the decisive qualifier for the 2015 African Youth Championship.

The Ghanaians have their work cut out for them after being held to a disappointing goalless draw at home two weeks ago.

They leave for Libreville on Wednesday night with only one mission – to secure qualification to next year’s championship in Senegal.

Ghana assistant coach Yaw Preko has called for calm in the wake of the growing apprehension among local fans.

“We have to be patient and don’t get discouraged. We have been in such situations in the past and have managed to surmount the challenge,” he said

“We know our destiny is in our own hands and so we have to take it.

“We want to qualify to the African Youth Championship and the only way to do that is to negotiate a win past Gabon.

“It’s going to be very difficult but I believe we can do it. We don’t need to panic and take the game as it comes.”

The Black Satellites clinched silver at the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria and went ahead to win bronze at the World Championship in Turkey. 1

Medeama to take legal action against Petrojet, Egyptian agent for tapping Anobaah Wed, 27 Aug 2014 19:35:22 +0000 Theophilus Anobaah has been illegally tapped by Petrojet

Theophilus Anobaah has been illegally tapped by Petrojet

Medeama will take legal action against Petrojet and Egyptian agent Mohammed El Zayat for illegally tapping Theophilus Anobaah, the club has confirmed.

The Ghanaian side are incensed with the Egyptian club for signing their duly contracted player without recourse to the club.

Petrojet announced the signing of the 23-year-old on a three-year deal last week but the deal has been put on hold after the Ghana FA refused to grant the player his International Transfer Certificate.

The Tarkwa-based side have vowed not to let him go without a fight and insist he’s still contracted to them till 2016.

The ambitious Ghanaian side are also angry with Egyptian agent Mohammed El Zayat who lured the player to sign for the Suez-based side.

They have vowed to report his conduct to world governing body, FIFA and stop him from further exploiting Ghanaian players.

“We will take legal action against Petrojet and the Egyptian for tapping our player without our consent,” club president Moses Armah told the club’s official website.

“We have insisted that we have a contract with the player which runs out till 2016 and so we’ll ensure that the proper thing is done.

“You don’t just wake up one morning and decide to sign a player without recourse to the club.

“We are not interested in what he (Anobaah) told them. What is of prime importance to us is that he has duly signed a contract extension with us.

“We’ll get to the bottom of this matter no matter what. It’s not proper and we’ll not allow anybody to swindle us.”

Zayat is believed to be responsible for tapping many Ghanaian players, using deceit to lure them to sign for clubs abroad without their parent clubs getting a dime.

He has dealt with several Ghanaian players including Kofi Nti Boakye and Yahaya Mohammed who left Kotoko without the club getting a penny from their sales. 0

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan tips Zambia as title contenders for 2015 AFCON Wed, 27 Aug 2014 19:29:27 +0000 Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has tipped Zambia to reach the finals of the Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Asamoah Gyan arrived in Zambia on Wednesday afternoon

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has tipped Zambia to reach the finals of the Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars skipper paid a glowing tribute to the Chipolopolo despite the huge recent rivalry between the two countries in recent matches.

Gyan, who plays for Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), made this prediction on Wendesday afternoon when making a brief stop in the Zambian capital Lusaka.

The Black Stars captain made a stopover at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) on his way to Malawi for the United Nations AIDS (UN-AIDS) Stop the Goal Campaign, that Zambia was one of the strongest sides on the continent.

The Ghanaian captain said Zambia worked hard to win the 2012 AFCON title and was confident that the Chipolopolo will be one to watch out at next year’s edition.

“No one gave them (Zambia) a chance in 2012 but the team really worked hard to win the title and I am sure Zambia will be one of the strongest contenders for the title next year,” Gyan said.

Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 in a match that saw Gyan miss a penalty in the semi finals at the 2012 AFCON finals and repeated the result during the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Ndola but lost 2-1 in Kumasi.

Gyan said he was looking forward to playing the Chipolopolo in Morocco.

Meanwhile, UNAIDS institution capacity adviser Kenneth Mwansa said the Stop the Goal Campaign was aimed at ensuring youths were kept away from vices that could put them at risk of acquiring HIV.

Mwansa said it was why his organisation was using celebrities like Gyan, who are role models to the youths.

He said Gyan had taken a long journey to as far as Brazil and many other parts of the world before he hands over the ball to Malawi where it will be signed by the President Peter Mutharika. 6

Medeama winger Anobaah in fresh trouble, Ghana FA blocks ITC to Egyptian side Petrojet Wed, 27 Aug 2014 19:19:36 +0000 Theophilus Anobaah

Theophilus Anobaah

Medeama winger Theophilus Anobaah’s shocking move to Petrojet is on the verge of collapsing after the Ghana FA refused to issue the Egyptian outfit with the player’s International Transfer Certificate, can reveal.

The Ghana FA has refused to grant him his request following doubts over his availability.

Petrojet confirmed the signing of the Ghanaian international on a three-year deal last week despite doubt surrounding his status.

The Tarkwa-based side insists he has two more years left on his existing deal – a claim which is being challenged by the 23-year-old.

Medeama have suspended him indefinitely after he refused to turn up for training with his conduct reported to the Ghana FA.

The player is believed to have convinced the North Africans about his supposed free agent status through the suspected connivance of his Egyptian agent Mohammed El Zayat, which influenced the Suez-based side to sign him.

However, understands that the blocking of his International Transfer Certificate has angered officials of Petrojet who are considering pulling out of the deal.

They have asked the player to return to his native country to resolve the matter with growing conviction he misrepresented himself to the club.

The Egyptian outfit could also be in trouble if Medeama decide to take legal action against them for luring their player without their consent.

Despite fighting his contract with the Mauve and Yellows publicly, can reveal that the player has begged club president Moses Armah privately to let him go since he is aware of the repercussion on his promising career.

Anobaah is a fine talent but his future is being threatened by his disregard for contractual obligations to the Ghanaian side. 1
