Yakubu Mohammed is unsure about his club future

Striker Yakubu Mohammed is undecided whether he will re-sign for Ashantigold or join Hearts of Oak.

The bulky striker has returned to Ghana after he was released by South African side Maritzburg United.

The 23-year-old failed to impress the Team of Choice during his short spell at the club and has been told to look elsewhere.

Mohammed is now thorn between Hearts and Ashantigold as he ponders his next move, understands.

Hearts are believed to be interested and have made an initial approach for his services.

Even though Ashantigold have insisted they are not interested in re-engaging him, media reports in the African country have suggested he will start pre-season with the miners on Monday.

With the calendar of the Ghana Premier League unknown, he has enough time on his hands to decide his club future. 0
Ghana FA suspend talks with Sports Ministry over FIFA response Fri, 25 Jul 2014 12:50:04 +0000 Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga with Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi

Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga with Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi

The Ghana FA have postponed their response to FIFA over the formation of a Presidential Commission to look into the disgraceful exit of the Black Stars from the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA wrote to the GFA last week seeking further information on the commission that was set up through a Constitutional Instrument and has the powers of a High Court.

The commission’s terms of reference have aspects that relates directly to footballing issues – a preserve of only the Ghana FA.

The world governing body therefore fears third party interference from Ghana’s government into football matters – a situation their rules vehemently frowns on.

The GFA are expected to give a detailed response to FIFA’s exploratory letter this week but this has been suspended for further consultations to go on between the Ghana FA and the Sports Ministry.

“The GFA told us they needed one week to do some internal deliberations and therefore talks have been suspended,” Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga said.

“We will therefore reconvene next week so we can conclude talks in sending a joint response to FIFA.”

The Ghana FA have been under intense pressure due to the disastrous World Cup campaign of the Black Stars in Brazil.

Ghana failed to win a single game at the World Cup in a group which included USA, Portugal and eventual winners Germany to bundle out in its worse ever performance since its debut campaign in Germany 2006. 0
Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan dashes West Ham United’s hopes with new Al Ain deal Fri, 25 Jul 2014 12:45:15 +0000 English side West Ham's hopes of signing target Asamoah Gyan have gone up in smoke after the Ghana captain pledged his future to Al Ain after signing a four-year contract extension with the Abu Dhabi club.

Asamoah Gyan has signed a new contract with Al Ain

English side West Ham’s hopes of signing target Asamoah Gyan have gone up in smoke after the Ghana captain pledged his future to Al Ain after signing a four-year contract extension with the Abu Dhabi club.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce made enquiries to sign the former Sunderland striker during the January transfer window and – with the objective of bringing more attacking flair to Upton Park this season – had been linked with a summer swoop.

Allardyce has been given the go-ahead to land a new forward after seeing Andy Carroll ruled out with long-term injury, but there will be no east London move for Gyan after he decided to commit his future to Al Ain.

The 28-year-old joined Sunderland for £13m back in August 2010 but joined Al Ain on loan just 13 months later in a lucrative move which reportedly quadrupled his wages.

And he made the deal permanent in 2012 – although the striker, who has scored 82 goals in 66 Arabian Gulf League games, has been regularly linked with a Premier League return.

But he has now ruled that out after commiting to Al Ain until 2018.

“I am very happy to extend my contract here until 2018 and I thank the club’s board, management and all the fans for their support,” he wrote on his personal website

“I have been happy here since I arrived in 2011 and I hope to help the side to keep winning.” 0
New Hearts signing Prince Buaben expects tough midfield selection Fri, 25 Jul 2014 12:42:55 +0000 Prince Buaben

Prince Buaben

Prince Buaben insists he cannot take a place in the Hearts team for granted after signing with the club for the Scottish Championship campaign.

The former Dundee United, Watford and Partick Thistle player is re-united with his Tannadice buddy Morgaro Gomis in the capital but the 26-year-old believes both of them face a hard fight for starting places.

Buaben, speaking ahead of Saturday’s Petrofac Training Cup first round tie with Annan, is ready for the battle with midfield teammates Scott Robinson, Jason Holt and Angus Beith though.

He said: “Holty and Scott are really talented young guys we have Goose [Angus Beith] as well. Really good players.

“It’s not going to be easy for me or Morgaro. In training I have to give 100% every day – you can never relax and think you’ve got your shirt already.”

On his reunion with Gomis, the Ghanaian said that friendship was the key to their Scottish Cup-winning partnership – something he is trying to instil in his new Hearts colleagues.

Buaben said: “I see [Morgaro] as a brother. We played together for four years and we connected really well.

“I’m used to Morgaro because I’ve played with him for a long time but I am trying to get to used to Scott and Holt more.

“I’m trying to tell them to get close to each other, like me and Morgaro so that we always have a midfielder partner who you understand.

“I hope we can all get close to each other, even off the field.”

Buaben admits he was sold on coming to Hearts by the club’s director of football Craig Levein – the man who first brought him to Scotland for Dundee United from the youth academy at Ajax.

But he says that biggest thing that has impressed him since joining is the training ground methods of head coach Robbie Neilson.

Buaben said: “On the training field he concentrates and passing and positioning on the field and that’s what I was used to at the academy at Ajax.

“He has a mind to play the ball on the ground in the Barcelona style, which is good for any footballer.

“For me to come here and work with a gaffer like that makes me really happy – it makes me smile to be playing football like that.” 0

Kotoko chief Executive Samuel Opoku Nti says he will not engage in a media battle with the club’s Accra representative David Serebour Boateng.

The Tema-based businessman has been an avid critic of the administrative style of the former Ghana international since he was appointed in an interim basis.

He has called for the dismissal of the current Kotoko boss, claiming he lacks the requisite managerial skills to manage the Ghanaian giants.

Serebour has refused conform to the decision to relieve him off his post with the two believed to be at loggerheads.

But Opoku Nti says he does not want to be drawn into a public debate with Serebour when asked about the status of the businessman in the club.

“I don’t want to talk about Serebour. I am looking beyond him. He says the board appointed him and so they will deal with him,” he told Accra-based Oman FM

Former Greater Accra Circles chairman Edmund Ackah has been lined up to replace him as he marks a return to his boyhood club since leaving under a year ago. 0

Defender Samuel Adade

Medeama defender Samuel Adade says he will gladly work with new coach Prince Owusu.

Owusu will star pre-season with his new side on Monday after signing a two-year deal with the club earlier this week.

The former Tema Youth trainer has promised to change the philosophy of the side and the experienced right-back who had a fabulous debut season last term has welcomed the change.

“We as players must respect the decision to appoint a coach and I’m very happy for him (Owusu),” Adade said.

“He’s a fine coach and I believe he will succeed at the club. I know of his abilities and I’m just happy to work under him.

“The ultimate aim for us is to win the League title and make our fans proud and I believe the new coach will inspire us to achieve that.

Adade joined the Mauve and Yellows from King Faisal last season and played a significant role in their debut CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

He is now a subject of intense bidding from some unnamed clubs in Europe and knocking on the doors of Ghana’s Olympic team. 0

Herbert Addo

Newly appointed Hearts coach Herbert Addo will start training with the side on Monday after penning a two-year deal.

The veteran trainer finalized his return to the club on Thursday after he was sacked in 2003 for failing to win the league.

He is expected to submit his transfer request on Monday after which he will submit the list of players he intends to offload in the off-season.

The club will offload 16 players and make four new signings.

Addo has been tasked to win the league and Cup double in his first year and qualify the team to the 2016 CAF Champions League. 0
EXCLUSIVE: Winger Theophilus Anoobah wants out at Medeama Fri, 25 Jul 2014 11:58:07 +0000 Theophilus Anoobah wants out at Medeama

Theophilus Anoobah wants out at Medeama

Medeama winger Theophilus Anoobah has demanded his clearance from the club ahead of the new season, can exclusively reveal.

The 2014 CHAN star wants out of the club despite the arrival of new coach Prince Owusu.

Anoobah felt frustrated by his lack of first team action last season and wants to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

However, the Mauve and Yellows are reluctant to release him as he is contracted to the club.

He is pushing through for a move away from the club with Kotoko believed to be monitoring the situation.

Anoobah was involved in a brawl with his teammates during their CAF Confederation Cup win home over Zambian side Zesco United after coming on to score the second goal in their 2-0 win. 0
Heart of Lions striker Isaac Osae handed Heerenveen trials Fri, 25 Jul 2014 11:54:54 +0000 Heart of Lions

Heart of Lions

Heart of Lions striker Isaac Osei will be undergoing a two-week trial at Dutch club SC Heerenveen.

The Dutch club are in a hunt for a new striker following the decision of Alex Finnbogason to leave the club just after emerging top scorer of the Eredivisie last term.

Officials and coaches of Heerenveen have watched video clips of Osae but want to have a closer look at him before taking the decision to sign him.

“As soon we heard that Alfred Finnbogason, the first striker of FC Heerenveen and top scorer of The Netherlands season 2013/2014 (29 goals), wanted to leave Heerenveen to continue his career in Spain, we offered video material and further information to the technical staff of the Dutch club,” the player’s management organization chief, Emmanuel Addo said.

“After one week we got a positive answer from FC Heerenveen. The same time though we had to be patient because we had to wait for a satisfactory transfer possibility for Finnbogason.

“Recently Finnbogason got his transfer to the Spanish premier-league club Real Sociedad.” 0
