Grant has been interviewed by the Ghana FA for the vacant Black Stars job

Ghana could miss out on the appointment of Avram Grant as the next head coach of the Black Stars with a reported interest from Nigeria in the ex Chelsea boss.

The 59-year-old is widely considered as the frontrunner to become the substantive replacement for Kwesi Appiah following his encounter with the GFA interview panel almost a fortnight ago.

But the Ghana FA have delayed the appointment of a coach almost two weeks after interviewing three of the five shortlisted applicants.

Reports in the English media claim Nigeria have expressed interest in appointing Avram Grant as their next coach.

This fresh development comes as a massive surprise especially after it was reported earlier on Thursday that Stephen Keshi is to return to his post just within two weeks of his dismissal.

If Nigeria’s reported keen interest in Grant is true, it means the GFA could miss out on the appointment of the former Chelsea boss especially with the stronger financial muscle of the Nigerians.

Grant’s representatives are however yet to confirm the reported interest of Nigeria.

The Israeli showed his keenness on becoming the next coach of the Black Stars by showing up for the GFA interview almost a fortnight ago despite subtle rumours of his fears to travel to Africa over the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus.

But the GFA’s delay could force Grant into looking elsewhere for other opportunities which already appears to be apparent with the interest from Nigeria.

EXCLUSIVE: Sulley Muntari set for Ghana return as midfielder prepares public apology over World Cup assaulthttp://www.ghanasoccernet.com/exclusive-sulley-muntari-set-ghana-return-midfielder-prepares-public-apology-world-cup-assault/ http://www.ghanasoccernet.com/exclusive-sulley-muntari-set-ghana-return-midfielder-prepares-public-apology-world-cup-assault/#comments Thu, 30 Oct 2014 10:52:26 +0000 http://ghanasoccernet.com/?p=271843 Sulley Muntari will be sending a public apology to the Ghana FA

Sulley Muntari will be sending a public apology to the Ghana FA

Sulley Muntari is set for a sensational return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as the AC Milan star prepares to make a public apology for assaulting a Ghana FA official during the 2014 World Cup.

The 30-year-old will write a formal apology letter to pacify Ghana FA Executive Committee member Moses Armah who he physically attacked on the eve of Ghana’s final group game at the 2014 World Cup against Portugal.

Muntari’s assault took place in a charged meeting with the Black Stars management committee where the players stated their disappointment in officials for failing to make prompt payment of the $100,000 promised each player as appearance fee.

The former Inter Milan star struck Moses Armah who is also the President of Ghana Premier League club Medeama twice before receiving an equal doze.

Muntari was hours later thrown out of the Ghana camp and has since been slapped with an indefinite suspension from the team alongside Kevin-Prince Boateng who is reported to have insulted then coach Kwesi Appiah.

The GFA is demanding an unqualified apology from the AC Milan star before his return to the Black Stars is even considered.

The experienced midfielder is now prepared to do the honourable thing by sending in his apology in order to return to the side ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

Muntari’s letter will also seek to apologize once more again to Ghanaians for his poor behavior and also to the GFA.

He is also expected to state his preparedness to submit himself to the code of conduct of the Black Stars and also to assure he will not repeat such a behavior.

The AC Milan star’s father, Alhaji Sulley Muniru has been talking to Ghana FA officials behind the scenes to prepare the grounds for his son’s apology.

The 30-year-old will be welcomed back into the team as his immense leadership and football qualities have been missed by the Black Stars throughout the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.

He will however be only admitted back into the side once he proves he is prepared to succumb to the disciplinary code of the team.

Ghana’s Black Stars to face Nigeria in international friendly next monthhttp://www.ghanasoccernet.com/ghanas-black-stars-face-nigeria-international-friendly-next-month/ http://www.ghanasoccernet.com/ghanas-black-stars-face-nigeria-international-friendly-next-month/#comments Thu, 30 Oct 2014 08:20:48 +0000 http://www.ghanasoccernet.com/?p=271835 Ghana's national team will play African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly next month with President Goodluck Jonathan in attendance, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Local Black Stars will play Nigeria in a friendly next month

Ghana’s national team will play African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly next month with President Goodluck Jonathan in attendance, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The timely friendly match has been scheduled by the Nigerian government and FA to officially open the ultra-modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo.

The Local Black Stars will play their Nigerian counterparts on November 7.

President Goodluck Jonathan, the leader of Nigeria who has close affinity with the people of Ghana despite the rivalry between the two countries, mooted the idea for the Local Black Stars to play Nigeria.

He will open the ultra-modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium before the match kick-offs.

The match is timely for Ghana as players of the side are seeking matches to be active with the start league hanging in the balance.

With the Local Black Stars seeking action to keep players active, the match has come as a timely boost for the side as they prepare for future assignments.

Nigeria last met Ghana in a competitive game in the semifinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) hosted by South Africa in January and the Black Stars ran away with a 4-1 victory after penalty shoot out. That game ended goalless in duration time.

However, unlike the clash in Bloemfontein, which was for home-based players only, the November 7 clash between the rivals will feature the full compliment of both sides national teams in an event, which will be laced with cultural dance, music and total entertainment.

To ensure a hitch free event, the Akwa Ibom State government has inaugurated a stadium commissioning planning committee to deliver “a unique commissioning ceremony” for the 30,000 capacity Akwa Ibom International Stadium.

Already, organisers of the opening ceremony are also promising a lot of excitement that will showcase the best of Akwa Ibom culture and through songs, music and dance.

The 30,000 seating capacity stadium which looks very much like the Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa is second to none in the West African sub-region.

Top football icons, including the legendary Brazilian Pele, have also been invited to grace the opening of the stadium scheduled to play host to Nigeria’s last group game against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 19.

Towards guaranteeing a hitch-free opening ceremony, the Akwa Ibom State Government on Tuesday in Uyo set in motion a Central Planning Committee to deliver a unique opening ceremony.

Major features of the committee include responsibilities that cut across Technical, Logistics, Media and Publicity, Sports content, Venue and facilities, security, protocol and ceremonial, Medical and secretariat.

The newly built 30,000 capacity Uyo International Stadium will host the Super Eagles’ 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 19, and is regarded as one of the best stadia in Africa.

The edifice was built to bear similarities with Bayern Munich’s Alianz Arena, the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing China, and the FNB Stadium  in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Trabzonspor chief executive Burak Gurdal has confirmed Manchester United are interested in their attacker Abdul Majeed Waris.

Louis van Gaal’s assistant Ryan Giggs reportedly flew to Turkey last week to watch the 23-year-old in Trabzonspor’s 2-0 Europa League win over Lokeren.

“We have not have any direct offers however, we know Manchester United are scouting Waris and keeping close tabs on him,” Gurdal said.

“Not just Waris, we have a few players are being closely watched.

“We only signed Waris two months ago and are not interested in selling right now, but you never know what will happen in the future.”

Waris joined Trabzonspor this transfer window from Russian side Spartak Moscow but yet to score in six appearances.

Ghana international midfielder Anthony Annan has expressed disappointment at HJK’s poor start to the Finnish season but has insisted the club will recover well from their string of defeats.

HJK are without victory in their opening three games of the competition and lying flat afoot the Group B table.

“It is going to be difficult for us to go through but we will try to win out remaining two home games,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

HJK have already won the Finnish title and can afford their concentration on the Europa League.

Annan joined HJK in the summer after leaving German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 and has commanded a starting place in the team since his arrival.

Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was in full time action for FK Ufa as they suffered elimination from the Russian Cup after losing 1-0 against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old earned a rare start and completed the entire duration of the game for Ufa who slipped to defeat and elimination from the competition.

Lokomotiv won the game thanks to a last-gasp strike from Appaev.

Frimpong, an ex-Arsenal star, has struggled to command a starting role at Ufa since arriving at the club but was handed his first start of the season.

However things did not go too well for Frimpong as his side lost in the game.
