After several months of worrying over the Black Stars’ goalkeeping department ahead of the 2014 World Cup, there seems to be some light at last in Stephen Adams.

But has the Aduana Stars shot-stopper really got what we need for Brazil in June? This remains the biggest question but undoubtedly his performance in Ghana’s last two games at the ongoing 2014 CHAN tournament in South Africa has put him in strong contention for a seat in the flight.

Just two weeks ago, there was almost no consideration about putting a home-based keeper on the plane to Brazil. Perhaps the only local name that came to mind was a certain Adade Foli who has now been reduced to bench warmer in South Africa.

Indeed just hours after Stephen Adams showed Africa some greatness to help Ghana reach the semis in the win over DR Congo, Abukari Damba – a former Ghana national team goalkeeper suggested Adams doesn’t appear matured to him and won’t select him for the World Cup if he had the chance.

But the former Hearts of Oak goalkeepers trainer should be revising his notes after yesterday’s game against Nigeria. If he was thinking about sending Dauda, Kwarasey, Agyei and maybe Richard Kingson in a provisional list for the tournament, then he should be ready to wedge the axe and make necessary alterations to include Adams.

But of course he is not in any position to influence Kwesi Appiah so we can safely brush his comments aside.

Having Germany, Portugal and the USA in the same group alone at the World Cup is another trouble. It brings a problem of selecting the right materials for the tournament.

Coach Kwesi Appiah might have already made up his mind to send Fatau Dauda and Kwarasey to Brazil but he can also take a second look at Stephen Adams before he picks Daniel Agyei ahead of him.

Agyei, who currently plies his trade with South African side Free State Stars, is nursing an injury and is unknown whether he can return in time to compete for a place. And, that leaves the options between Kingson who recently moved to Turkey and Adams. For experience, Kingson wins it. But for current form and performance, Adams has convinced us all.

Even when he appeared to have outstretched his right leg and suffered a groin injury during the game, the 26-year-old still stayed out and pulled an unbelievable stop in the 120th minute – a ball that was heading to poison Ghana. But he’s got experience too. The former Hearts of Oak-target has been around for long. He was a candidate for a place in the Ghana squad for the 2010 World Cup but he lost out to Stephen Ahorlu and has fought on since.

Adams shows us how unrelenting he has been all these years. Four years on. At least he deserved to have been at the 2010 event.

Kwesi Appiah should have no problems handing down a call to the keeper in our next international assignment and perhaps put him in the post against the Netherlands in that friendly. That syndrome which limits new invitees onto the bench at least must be cured.

Now that our hopes in Dauda is almost evaporated due to his inactivity at Orlando Pirates and Kwarasey doesn’t seem to appear anymore, we can gather the vim and vigor and throw Adams into the post and tell him to perform.

Once he did it against Nigeria in a great game, he has the potentials to excel in any big game including the World Cup.

Yes,we should believe that he has a spot.Although he might be inexperienced. But he has proven a point. For my money I should believe Kwarasey and Daniel Adjei should be guaranteed the first two spots in the goalkeeping department while we drop Fatau Dauda.Because that Fatau dude cant put up that showing like this gentleman Adams had done.Well,Fatau can be the favorite of keeper trainer Yakubu but we all know that he doesnt deserve a spot in the current national team. These are guys much suitable as follows Foli Adade,Braimah , Nii Baah and current revelation Stephen Adams..In this case also,we should ask kindly Mr Olele to retire finally from international football and concentrate on making his pension pay with the Turkish second-tier club. While Fatau and Yakubu are ousted away from the National team..Since Yakubu had proven to be a biased trainer..

    • Stranger Danger says:

why is everyone throwing Dauda under the buss? yea the majority of the population currently agrees that he shouldnt be our #1 goalie but that doesnt mean he should be released from the team entirely. If hes got something in him, and can challenge Kwarasey and other goalies to EARN the #1 spot, then so be it. Dauda is a decent keeper. Hes got some attributes that can potentially help progress the National team. Is the goalkeeping trainer/phony that should be dealt with for being biased against Kwarasey for whatever reason.

      • OGYA says:

Yes the only player that he should replace is FATAU DAUDA
Trust me if Adam Kwarasey gets his Job back, it will be lights out for Fatau. The goalkeeper coach Yakubu needs to be removed from the Ghana Black Star training team.

Mr.Stranger Danger..Am sure you were born after 9 months of labor in your mother’s womb.So I should appreciate that all your senses are working right. Please,I dont mean to insult you.Far from that, but am trying to emphasis on something here. Please try to relate yourself to following..
1.When Eddie Ansah was the trying for keepers in the blackstars. How was Kwarasey performing?
2.How would you have felt being Adjei or Kwarasey should the national team goalkeeper’s trainer be training privately with an under-performing colleague goalkeeper.
3.How would you feel being Kwarasey when this same goalkeeper’s trainer come out to tell the world that your confidence is low. Therefore he wont fix you but choose a suspect goalkeeper ahead of you?
Wouldnt this “molest” your confidence enough?
It is more obvious ,there must be something more than mere friendship between Dauda and Yakubu going on?This is what I call bias!!..
You are of 9 months born.So I expect to think about this yourself and not to be told..Apologies should you find this insulting. But here,is the biggest truth.

        1.how would you have felt.

      • me says:

@sttranger Danger, don’t mind them. whether they like it or not Dauda is and will remain our #1 keeper. Akwasi Appiah will keep Dauda at the post because Dauda is reliable. They will all be shamed when Dauda put up a kingston performance at the world cup and help us win it.

      yes, kwarasay, daniel adjei, adams…
if u are active, u must be given a fair chance to wear gbstar jersey….

  2. kuukuphilly says:

y do think he’s playing his heart out if not for bigger esposure..this boy needs to be on the plane enrout to Brazil.

  3. Papadinho says:

Dauda is done!!!! This dude should replace him
    Bless

  4. No to Adams says:

NOO. Not yet. Yes he’s good but not matured for the WC. let’s not rush him but we shld gradually promote him from this level probably to the next AFCON and then continue from there.

  5. Goodyman Gustavo says:

AA dnt need to think twice on this…You have a goal keeper who is competing with teams like Libya and Zim who have most of their regular stars in their team and the guy is actually proven to be one of the best shot stoppers and also good in keeping penalties…(That means 2 in one)..Dauda is clubless even though he has club ..so is better we take the best to BRAZIL..But the defenders too I can say are convincing me someway bi……

  6. OGYA says:

Thumbs up Brother Akyereko. You know what you are talking about. Stephen looks a safer pair of hands in the post. He is calm; composed; positions himself very well and has great anticipation. I was told he was weak with aerial balls. But he appears to time the trajectories of aerial balls very well and is able to deal with them. Something which appears to be the weakest points of both Dauda and Kwarasey. Besides, he appears to be a lucky goalkeeper as well. So for me he is not only ready to enplane to Brazil, but also primed to take up the number one spot. I also agree, he should be given the chance to show he is indeed ready to prove his mettle by featuring him in the Holland friendly or in the friendly on the Fifa sanctioned date of March 5th. Wish him Good Luck and Divine Guidance and Protection.

  8. Lukman Evergreen says:

well, its certain we still have a big question which is who gets the spot if Fatau and kwarasey are readily selected.i think you have made some good analysis in there but i still believe it will take a couple of more excellent performances to guarantee Adams a place in the senior side, lets take his perfomance in the glo league, its not been too convincing, i have followed a couple of Aduana games and he has not been that good. i agree he has shown some excellent show in the chan but there is still a long road for him to cover to get a seat in the plane to Brazil and on any day i still believe Richard Kingson is coming back man the sticks. THANKS

  9. Maxwell Johnson says:

That’s GH for you, one or two decent performance and already people are already calling for the inclusion of this GK into the main BS. Anyway I think he’s a good prospect but not yet ready to man the post, he should be a third choice GK in my candid opinion depending on the form of Daniel Agyei.

  10. keith from germany says:

    Good arguements by all.
Adams stephen is definately good from wat i hav seen but the question is,is that enough to for the worldcup?
This tournaments they are playing is local based footballers tournament.
It feels my heart with pain that the technical handlers hasnt been fair towards kwarasey.
It is true that he has a problem playing with africwn sides since their game approach are raw n hard but guys, kwarasey is a force to reckon with when it comes to playing against whites europeans or all whites in general.
Have u guys forgotten his exploits against brazil in fulham n against chile in philadelphia usa?
Go on youtube n watch his matches with strømgodset in the year 2013!
Solid saves n good reflexes.there is a conspiracy against kwarasey.
    We live to see

  11. askantwi says:

He was good, but not great. He committed some basic mistakes. During the last moment of the game against Nigeria, he did well to prevent that last minute goal. However, he shouldn’t have allowed the player to head the ball in the first place right in front of him. He should have come out to punch the ball away. The Nigerian player did not do well with the header. Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew or Wariss would have put the ball away easily. Also, the Nigerians hit the cross bar during the game. The keeper missed the ball when he went up for it with his outstretch hand. Luckily the ball hit the cross bar. That could have been another goal against us. All in all, the keeper has done well for Ghana but I will not pick him for the World Cup.

  12. GHFUO, change ur MENtality says:

if adams wins the trophy. he is going to brasil. he has the championship mentality. so does kwarasay who captains his club and won the norway league. dan adjei as a winning mentality with u20 n very active currently. fatau is not serious. let him enjoy his small money at pirates. if pirates think aa will showcase fatau in brasil to boost his selling price. they lie..monkey no go pound the fufu for baboon to come n chop
