Players of the United States have been conducting forensic studies of all the Ghana players and the Black Stars formation using computers as they prepare to face the West Africans in their opening match at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

America coach Jurgen Klinsmann has deployed a computer program that analyses how all the 23 Ghana players and each players style in a comprehensive way that shows the player's strength and also exposes his weaknesses.

The hi-tech approach by the Americans is to enable them destroy the Black Stars in the opening Group G match at the tournament in Brazil as the Ghanaian eliminated them in their two previous appearances at the World Cup in 2006 and 2010.

The U.S. will arrive in Brazil on Monday morning and play its opening World Cup match against Ghana on June 16.  As they settle into training camp in Sao Paulo, the Americans are well into their game preparations.

“We have boards up, we know their top players, we know the formation,” midfielder Kyle Beckerman said after his team defeated Nigeria, 2-1, Saturday night in Jacksonville.

“We have the computer (program), with their touches, every player, you can go on and watch them. I’m sure we’ll watch more video as it gets closer. But we know a lot about them.”

The game against Nigeria was a sneak preview of what to expect against Ghana, given the similar playing styles.

Both African teams have dangerous attacking players and speed but are prone to defensive lapses.

Presumably the starting line-up will remain the same. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann veered from previous line-ups against Nigeria by starting Jermaine Jones and Beckerman in the middle.

In the past, it’s been either Jones or Beckerman alongside Michael Bradley. Alejandro Bedoya remained wide as Graham Zusi came off the bench.

Klinsmann said that Beckerman’s specialty is to protect and cover his teammates on defense and his presence gave Jones the freedom to go forward. “Kyle is there always. He’s there when you need him,” Jones said.

“It was all about watching each other’s backs,” Beckerman said. “If we can keep working on it, we can get better at it. (Jones) has such a motor, he’s so powerful, he likes to drive and get into the attack, so if I have to sit in there and watch his back it’s all good, I’m all for it. We can play together, sounds good.”

To advance beyond the opening round, the Americans have to go through Ghana, which has knocked the Americans out of the previous two World Cups.

Klinsmann has even gone as far as calling it a knock-out game since powerhouses Portugal and Germany follow.
