David Addy speaks exclusively to GHANAsoccernet.com

David Addy in an extensive interview with GHANAsoccernet.com talks about his club career, the national team and revealed the special woman in his life.

The 22-year-old is one of several players vying for a place in the Black Stars squad for 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was kind enough to make time to speak extensively to GHANAsoccernet.com on his past, present and future.

GSN: Where did it all start for you?

DA: It all started with my juvenile team called Rot-Weiss in Awudome (Accra) and then I joined Ajax Academy. I completed my secondary school education but didn’t continue to tertiary due to my commitment to the national U-17 team and football in general. I went back to Rot-Weiss when the academy (Ajax) was dissolved and after a year I joined Inter Allies, Wa All Stars, Randers, Porto, some loan spells at Academica Coimbra and Panetolikos in Greece and now Vitoria Guimaraes.

GSN: Do you feel your move from Porto to Guimaraes has helped your career?

DA: Sure it has. I am playing regularly and that is what every professional player wants.

GSN: How was the transition from Porto to Guimaraes like?

DA: It was quite easy because I was already playing in Portugal and the players and staff here received me very well.

GSN: What were your pre-season targets and are you fulfilling them?

DA: It was basically to make a good season and get my career back on track and at the moment I believe I am on the right track.

GSN: What do you hope to achieve by the end of the season?

DA: To have finished a good season and to have helped my team qualify for either the Champions League or the Europea League.

GSN: Were you surprised when you earned a return to the Ghana national team?

DA: Not really. I believe everything is possible with prayers and hard work and I would like to thank Akwasi Appiah for rewarding the hardwork that I have put in this season.

GSN: You are well aware Ghana is preparing for the 2013 Nations Cup, how bad do you want to be part of the Black Stars team in South Africa?

DA: It’s a great honour for every player to be part of his national team for such a prestigious tournament. And I won’t hide my desire and ambition to be in South Africa. It will be a dream come true to represent Ghana at the 2013 Nations Cup.

GSN: Do you believe you have done enough to merit a place in the 23-man squad for the tournament?

DA: Hahahahahha, this is quite a difficult  and sensitive question. Ghana has very good players in all departments, I am also one of such players so at the end of the day it is the coach who ultimately decides.

GSN: It almost skipped me, do you think that winning the U-20 World Cup is your greatest achievement till date?

DA: Of course, it was a very special moment not only for me but for the other players in that squad. It was a very unique group, we shared a lot of great moments and by far one of my greatest memories. But I want to achieve even more.

GSN: Is there any one person you would like to thank and credit for your career?

DA: My God fathers, they are twins. I would like to thank them for not giving up on me and also for the coaches who believed in me.

GSN: Let’s get personal. Are you married, engaged or seeing someone?

DA: Engaged to a very lovely lady called Dyen Gabriel.

GSN: That’s quite courageous, because most footballers don’t like revealing the identities of their spouses.

DA: Yes, you are right but I personally don’t have a problem with that.

GSN: Are you going to marry her anytime soon?

DA: I knew that was coming (with laughs), you are now getting too personal.

GSN: Okay, okay, any message to your fans and Ghanaians at large as we wrap up this interview session?

DA: Well, I thank everyone for his or her prayers and support. I will do my best not to disappoint them and I wish all Ghanaians a peaceful elections, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.
