Ghanaian youth midfielder Thomas Partey is likely to join Portuguese giants SL Benfica next season as the club has opened negotiations with Atletico Madrid to sign him, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old, a 2013 Ghana U20 triallist, has been impressed Benfica officials and they are set to open talks with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid who own the player to sign him.

Benfica are keen to bolster their squad for next season with a blend of experience and youth in midfield and the former Tema Youth midfielder has caught their attention following his impressive form for Real Mallorca in the Spanish Segunda Division.

While at Mallorca, the lanky midfielder completed 29 games and scored 5 times while playing 36 games in all season.

The young midfielder would head to Benfica with little top-flight experience but nonetheless value as he broke in Diego Simone's star-studded Atletico Madrid side thrice two seasons ago before leaving the Estadio Vicente Calderón to Mallorca.
