EXCLUSIVE: Police nabs boy for impersonating Asamoah Gyan on Facebook in an attempt to defraud US-based Ghanaian
Asamoah Gyan has denied being on Facebook

A young boy [name withheld] is currently in police cells for attempting to defraud a US-based Ghanaian by impersonating Asamoah Gyan on Facebook just two days after the Ghana captain warned he was not on that social media platform.

The boy, believed to be aged in the region of 18-22 was nabbed as he made his way to a bank in Accra to cash an undisclosed amount of money sent by the US-based Ghanaian who thought the money was going to a friend of the Al Ain ace.

The young boy who speaks flawless English had apparently been using a fake Facebook account to woo unsuspecting fans of Asamoah Gyan.

He had been in close contact with the US-based Ghanaian who is suspected to have fallen in love over the social media platform with the fake Asamoah Gyan.

Gyan had two days prior to the arrest of the young man, had warned he was not on Facebook following reports he has purchased an expensive private jet with the source of that information credited to another fake Asamoah Gyan fan page account on Facebook.

His denial of having a Facebook account which was widely covered by both the local and international media appears to have done little to deter persons from committing this cybercrime.

The young man is currently in cells at the Regional Police Station in Accra Central and is being processed for prosecution at the law courts.

He will be the second person to have been charged with a similar offence following the nabbing of another alleged criminal who is currently being trialed for defrauding a UK-based lady over the tune of £5000 by impersonating Asamoah Gyan.
